Allen-Vittori is hopefully the first fight of the PPV.

Would be a good one to kickoff the Main Card. If Allen doesn’t win this I’m not sure where his career goes. He might lay the gloves down.

Saw he had made a cryptic social media post a little while back. Just made sense that he would be on the NOLA card if anything—especially coming off a loss. Guess I assumed wrong.

Diat called Allen being on there lol

Allen has lost 2 in a row and Vettori 3 of the last 4. This is do or die for both fighters. Decent fight

I dont see allen winning this. vettori is as tough as they come and has never been submitted or KO'ed. I dont remember anyone really controlling him on the ground either but maybe I forgot it. either way I think vettori finishes him or allen wrestle fricks him to a boring decision.

definitely not a fight that is main card worthy on a ppv imo

The BMF belt is a fake title lol

You could absolutely have had it on the line for an actual title fight.

I'm aware, and I never said it wasn't conceivable, but it's obviously the "lesser" belt, and the UFC has never had a fight with more than one belt being defended.

The chatter about the guy losing while still being considered the "baddest" is laughable when you actually look at the careers the men who have carried the belt have had and the killers they've all fought.

A guy like Ilia is clearly one of the PFP best but longevity and surviving the highs and lows counts for a lot and is what they appear to use when considering who belongs in the "BMF division".

If a guy who isn't considered part of the 'BMF division' KOs the guy who's the champ of that division--that's the way every belt but the BMF works. You lose it and you're no longer the champ. But now BMF is based on body of work. We're making this stuff up as we go along because there are no objective rules to it. Probably why someone here said the UFC wants to retire it with Dustin.

I'm certainly not opposed to that. I haven't hated it overall, but the tread is worn off that tire.

Sorry if I'm giving everyone a hard time about it. I don't mind if it continues or not, I just think even Dana would have a hard time explaining what the rules of the belt are. Surprised a reporter hasn't tested him on it, maybe they have, I don't know.

The BMF really means something to Dustin, he was telling Ariel Helwani that it meant something to him after he lost to Gaethje, and then Ariel turned around and said, nobody gives a s*** about the BMF title, it means nothing, you're Dustin Poirier, you're a legend, etc. Completely tactless reply from Ariel. Not sure what that guy's appeal is. Dustin was polite but you could tell he didn't like Ariel's take.

I think what ariel meant was dustin doesnt need a fake belt to justify his career.

Like I said, the belt makes zero sense in this context anyway. dustin already lost a fight for the bmf by brutal knockout ....and max is the current bmf who lost 2 fights to dustin already and is coming off a brutal knockout.

like ariel was saying, dustin doesnt need the bmf belt for everyone to know he is a bad motherfricker. I just wish they would have given him a fight against gaethje or topuria to end his career. the max fight doesnt make sense.

That's true. It was just that Dustin had just got through saying that it meant something to him. And then Ariel immediately negated him on that. I know he was trying to make Dustin feel better, but it was kind of awkward.

One hundred percent. There's also no guarantee that he definitely wins against Max. So how frustrating would that be, 2-1 against Max but Max got the finale.

Apparently Dricus said he has agreed to 2 different dates to fight chimaev. He said as early as 2 months from now (aka UFC NOLA) and as late as 4 months from now. The announcement will supposedly be "in a few days". Talk about a bombshell if that fight just so happens to take place at 318. Would be quite a sight to see.

That would be AMAZING.

Yeah, because both guys have to be at the same weight, so only one belt can be on the line. But the BMF isn't tied to weight class, so there's no reason they couldn't. It's a gimmick supposedly about who's the baddest MF'er.

Has anyone argued against it being a "gimmick"?

It's just something "fun", no one is acting like it's a "real" belt.

Gaethje already said he wouldn't fight Dustin again. And a Topuria fight makes no sense for the UFC.

Both of those fights would've been entertaining, but the Max fight makes the most sense in that Dustin isn't going to spoil an up and comer, and it's still an entertaining fight regardless of the previous outcomes.

I don't think anyone has.

The whole thing started with Nate Diaz saying he's the BMF, and then they came up with the gimmick Nate-Masvidal BMF fight. And now because it's subjective and there are no clear objective rules to who qualifies, when it's on the line, why a guy can lose while holding it and still retain it, etc.--people talk about it a lot.

Damn. No DDP for 318. With just 8 days until tickets go on sale, still no mention of who will be the co-main alongside the BMF belt. (Will there even be a co-main?)

We’ll see how the card fills out. Nationally, it may be underwhelming, but it’s hard to be upset in LA hosting Diamond’s last go and first event in a decade.

Hopefully we show out for this one and get one a year or so.
