Dilfer is what this board thinks Deion Sanders is

Clearly a Baby Bryant plant meant to ruin UAB football.

UAB probably needs to fire the AD, too.

Is Bill Clark still around? What the hell happened to him, anyway? Dude was one of the best coaches in CFB.
He retired in the summer of 2022 due to what were apparently some pretty severe back problems. He had spinal fusion surgery after he announced his retirement.

While I understand the argument against the hiring i can understand the thought behind the hiring. AD wanted a 'splash' hire who could help with a pipeline of recruiting. Obviously Dilfer sucked a bag of dicks.....they are in a bad spot imo.

Damn.
He'd probably be at an SEC job by now if he had stayed in coaching

Change “in my 42 years on earth” to “this year”, put Dilfer second behind Deshaun Foster and I’ll agree with you.

I'm sure that was the rationale behind Dilfer, but a splash hire would have made more sense if UAB was in the gutter.
Clark had them bowling annually, and they had just opened the new stadium, yet Dilfer referred to the job as a "rebuild" when all UAB needed was someone to maintain what had already been built. It was an unnecessary reach by the AD.

So I knew that they were pretty good once UAB brought football back but I had to check their record since the return because I didn’t know off the top of my head….. they brought football back in 2017…. They made a bowl in every year minus 2020 (they still had a winning record) until Dilfer. That’s wild. I wonder how Vincent would have done long term had he been given the job after 2022….5 of their 6 losses were by 1 score that year.

This had disaster written all over it from day one! And it played out exactly like most people thought it would.

Foster was basically just an interim that they committed too many years to for no good reason. Dilfer was basically hired for the same reason Deion was except he had no college experience and is 1/1000th the attention grabber.

Probably Trent Dilfer

Yeah, typically, giving the full-time job to the interim is a bad idea. But in this case, Vincent probably deserved the opportunity.
Obviously, it wasn't like Clark stepped down because he wasn't getting results anymore. You'd think UAB would have wanted to maintain cohesion in the staff instead of essentially starting over from scratch.
