Nice. Now the Hornets have no center worth a shite and they'll have 2 late-first round picks which almost never turn into anything.

So doesnt this trade just put them at the cap number instead of over it? If so, they still cant do anything in the offseason.

Peja's ridiculous salary is what they shouldve been trying to unload.

This really drudges all of my old bad feelings up regarding Shinn and the way he handled Katrina.

A couple of years and a magical season makes it easier to forgive his flirtations and his desire to stay there forever, but this kind of pisses me the hell off.

Why do we have 33 year old Posey, 31 year old MoPete, 29 year old Rasual, and 32 year old Peja for a combined $29MM per season but we can't have one 27 year old franchise center?

Youre right but thats kind of my point. He's killing our cap number. We could have a legit all-star for his salary.

Tyson Chandler for Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox and a late first round pick

Smith and Wilcox have expiring contracts.

I was actually asking if he would play for the Hornets tonight against them i.e. the Thunder.

Via NewsOK, deal is done.

The Thunder has acquired center Tyson Chandler from New Orleans in exchange for Chris Wilcox and Joe Smith, according to a league source with knowledge of the negotiations.

The Thunder will also include the draft rights to Devon Hardin, the 50th overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Chandler, 26, is one of the league’s best young defensive-oriented centers but has been hampered by chronic foot injuries this season. Chandler is averaging 8.8 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 32 games this year but averaged 11.8 points and 11.7 rebounds in 79 games last year.

The 7-foot-1 center became too expensive for the Hornets, who are in cost-cutting mode and face at $76 million payroll next season. Chandler has two years remaining on his contract after this season worth $24.6 million. He can opt out of the final year of his deal before the start of the 2010-11 season.

Wilcox and Smith both have expiring contracts, which will help New Orleans clear room on its salary cap next season.

Are the Hornets dreams coming to a crash for the next couple of years until financial troubles are cleared up? Honest question.
