Add him to the list of every 5 year stars like Kris Humphries and Royce White.

The Minnesota program has an inflated sense of self-worth. They fired a good football coach in Glen Mason as well thinking they could do better. They couldn't.

I agree firing Mason was a terrible move and it was just a reactionary move after a bad loss to Texas Tech. The AD had no clue who they were going to replace him with and the school ended up with a guy that wasn't even fit to be a head coach at a DII school.

I have feeling this is different. You don't fire Tubby unless you have a great hire ready and waiting to come in.

There are three pretty good players in the 2014 class. The state produces talent. Wisconsin has won with a lot of MN talent.

1 year a trend doesnt make, plus, I fail to see how 2014 kids are relevant to Tubby's reign at Minnesota

According to rivals...

2013 = zero Top 100 players
2012 = zero Top 100 players
2011 = zero Top 100 players
2010 = zero Top 100 players
2009 = 3 Top 100 players
2008 = 1 Top 100 player

Yeah, that's some big time talent to work with in-state

And yet he took a team to the round of 32 with all that in state talent to work with.

And he got 2 of those Top 100 players too from the 2009 class.

Take a look at Wisconsin's roster over the past few years...they are winning with MN talent.

Tubby isn't getting fired because of recruiting, he has brought plenty of talent here. He has struggled in coaching, developing and keeping that talent around(four very good players have transferred out of the program).

I see Jordan Taylor, Jon Leuer, Jared Berggeren, and Bruesewitz. Leuer and Taylor were already committed to UW before Tubby was hired.

So Berggeren's 11 pts and 7 rebs and Bruesewitz's 6 pts and 5 rebs are the reason Tubby had to go?

They have 3 Minnesota players on their team this year. 1 doesn't play, another plays but isnt any good and then 1 is actually good.

Once again, you need to drop the "only school in state" thing like it matters. Minnesota produces jack shite in terms of talent. Already proved that. zero Top 100 players for 4 years running now.

Bottom line is Minnesota made a very stupid move. They arent going to do any better than Tubby and he just got them to the NCAAT and WON against a better seeded team. On top of that has made the NCAAT half the time he has been there and 2 out of the other 3 years was still good enough to be in the NIT. This is much better than Minnesota of the past. Minnesota is not a basketball program anyone thinks of when listing Top Big Ten programs much less maybe even a Top 100 program (okay, maybe Top 100, but not a name that quickly pops up at all in that long list).

If Minnesota expects much better than what Tubby has brought then have fun getting hammered by the NCAA because that's the only way you'll get it.

Leuer and Taylor were Monson's fault. I wasn't blaming Tubby for not recruiting those other guys, I was just saying Wisconsin is winning with MN talent.

hes gotta have someone decent in the bag or this is just ridiculous. Oh well, who's firing a coach in the sec this year? Auburn should make the move. Tubby may be way past his prime but he could pull a few sec teams out of the dumpster before retirement.

That's really shocking, in my opinion. Tubby is not an elite coach, but he is pretty damn good. Minnesota was in ruins after the academic scandal, and now you look at where Minnesota is as a program after the Monson years. He had them greatly improved in a short time.

Unless this is a move to get Howland immediately (and that has to be weird considering what happened on Friday night), I don't know what the AD is thinking).

As for Tyus, unless they hire Matta or Coach K, which I think is a bit of a longshot, he isn't going to be a Gopher.

This is my thought. I can't see Shaka going to Minn. That's a step down at this point.

Gotta be Howland.

I doubt Shaka goes to Minnesota. If he doesn't get the UCLA job, he should hold out another year.

I've heard that UCLA is going to offer him the job

It could also be Flip Saunders(he has a lot of interest in the job) and he played college ball at Minnesota.
