White boy Jamie Dixon gets a raise after choking (again). Tubby Smith beats a 6 seed and gets fired.

Minnesota has a very delusional look upon their own program. Made the NCAAT a total of 9 times before Tubby Smith got there, Smith made it 3 times in 6 years (And NIT 2 other years ).

They fired him after he just got to the NCAAT and won a game in a big upset? Just stupid, plain stupid.

I think it was a bad move to fire him

interesting that he NEVER had a winning conference record while at Minn though

Tubby did nothing in Big 10 play. He was constantly out-coached and his best accomplishment in the NCAA tournament is beating a what was a struggling UCLA team. His six years at MN is the definition of mediocrity. Not surprised this happened and if you watched his team play over the last month of the season it was brutal outside of one game.

He never finished higher than sixth in the Big 10 and was something like 6-21 on the road in conference play his last three years.

Not really, the Big Ten is a tough conference just about every year and it's friggin MINNESOTA. Far from one of the better basketball programs in that conference.

Which is much better than what the program did in about every season except the one's no longer on the books.

It's MINNESOTA. WTF do they expect? This is like expecting Seton Hall to start dominating the Big East, LMFAO, no, not going to happen. Facts are Smith was getting Minnesota to tournaments consistently which they have never done before and to the NCAAT at a rate much greater than they have done before. And now in a year he UPSETS a team in the tournament gets fired. Flat, out, stupid. Dont give me that crap they beat a "Struggling" UCLA team. They were a 11 seed, UCLA a 6 seed. That's a huge win.

Surprising but look at the big picture. Minnesota was among the top teams in the country earlier this season and completely fell apart and went full retard. That has been a common theme at Minnesota for him. Talented players who underachieve.

Why would Shaka go to Minnesota though? Dumb move. Seems he could do better

For one beating UCLA isn't an upset when your team is favored to win. That UCLA team was a trainwreck, there is a reason why they just fired their coach.

MN paid Tubby a ton and he didn't deliver. MN isn't Seton Hall, it is the only DI school in a reasonably sized state. They gave him six years and the best he could manage was a tournament win over a struggling team and no higher than a sixth place finish in conference play.

No way Shaka Smart would even think about going to Minnesota. He's been holding out for a big time job (and it's no secret) and will continue to do so.

I highly doubt Minnesota finds a better coach than Smith.

Also, Minnesota hit Big Ten play, it's not exactly an easy conference. I dont see what delusional expectations Minnesota's AD has, but making the tournament AND UPSETTING a team in it is a pretty damn good year for a coach. They lost to a really good team too, not like they lost to a worse seeded team like we've seen happy ad-nasuem this tournament. Florida will be in the elite 8 at least.

You're right. There are players worth recruiting in New Jersey.

A reasonably sized state full of non-basketball players.

The Minnesota program has an inflated sense of self-worth. They fired a good football coach in Glen Mason as well thinking they could do better. They couldn't.

11 seed over a 6, upset. Sorry, it's a great win.

Since when does Minnesota (the state) churn out any basketball talent? Irrelevant point.

Then restructure his contract if they feel they are paying him too much. Sorry, but you dont fire a coach who is doing much better than they've done in the past on a consistent basis and just had an upset win in the NCAAT.

Minnesota = Seton Hall in terms of basketball program. They parrallel each other very closely. Both have had 9 NCAAT appearances pre-2008 (before Tubby got to Minneosta). Both have 1 Final Four. Both are in the better of the basketball conferences.

Any Minnesota fan(s) thinking they are somehow deserving of way more are completely delusional. Tubby was doing a very good job there considering it's Minnesota in a tough conference.

UCLA seed was so out of line though. Should have been Oregon there.

I don't really consider that an upset. Just like I don't consider Oregon over Oklahoma State an upset

Nonetheless, he constantly underachieved even when the Big 10 was down
