Tagovailoa got $30.3 million guaranteed, including a $19.6 million signing bonus, on his four-year rookie contract. He isn’t spending a dime of it.

Instead, Tagovailoa said in an interview with GQ, every NFL paycheck is going into savings, and all he’ll spend to live on is what he gets in endorsements.

“I’m gonna be living off of my marketing money, so the endorsement money that I get, and then everything else is just put to the side,” Tagovailoa said. “So the money that I’m making from my contract, that’s put to the side, so none of that’s gonna be seen.”

With endorsement deals with several big companies, Tagovailoa has been able to purchase some nice items, including a $1.65 million house near the Dolphins’ facility, an $80,000 Escalade for his mom and a $10,000 Rolex for his dad.

“I would say I’m happy with what I spent it on,” Tagovailoa said.

That's a good plan if he can stick to it. Won't be long before his 147 family members come out the woodwork asking for money though.

Awesome to hear

The horror stories you hear about guys going broke should scare a lot more of these NFL guys than just the handful you hear about

That’s a good point. Tua might be making this announcement publicly to get the leeches off his back.

Think it was Bill Parcells who used to tell all his rookies to live off the interest from their rookie contract and put the rest away. That was back when advertisement money was nothing compared to today, too.

Tua seems like a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. I just hope he is able to tell people no and doesn't let them take advantage.

By savings, he means his dad is taking it.

He's probably still got some money saved up from his time at Bama as well.

That’s what Marshawn Lynch did as well.

If Gronk can do it, Tua certainly can

That part has been happening since they realized he was good at football. And he likely will take care of his family and pacific family as a whole and there's nothing wrong with that. It's a closer, tight knit culture among islanders.

My buddy has a theory that Gronk is legally mentally handicapped so his parents' have power of attorney and keep his money safe

And he tells people this like it's fact and not his theory when the topic of Gronk's money comes up.

Not really anything wrong with taking care of entire family.

It really doesn't need to take that much money to do that even.

Problem us when you start entertaining your family's terrible business ideas only possible with your money. And buying 500k cars worth 200k after three years.

With 15 million after taxes you don't have to worry about anything again if you just live ridiculously instead of outrageously

I know way too many people who are like your buddy. I love being like “yo that’s not actually true you know that right”
