I didnt say it did. I just think soccer is a sport where more players are similar to the average player in athleticism.

Id say football is far more wide-ranging

In the US, yes Soccer doesn't get our top athletes. In almost every other country, Soccer gets their best athletes. /thread

I'd say the average pro soccer player ticks off more of the "athlete" boxes than any other sport.

Basketball might be the only one that can compare in terms of percentage of elite athletes on the field/court at one time.

What about soccer players is more athletic than recievers? Being able to run for 90 minutes isn't that impressive to me knowing I could do it when I was in good shape

I think you think soccer is cross country. lol

Cuz the best soccer players in the world are just the most athletic soccer players in the world, right?

The greatest player in the world, maybe the best player ever, is a borderline dwarf/troll.

Soccer takes a massive amount of natural skill (so does baseball). It takes a lifetime to develop world class touch.

The hardon that fat, untraveled drunks have for soccer is amusing. Can't wait for the World Cup to hear some more bitching from Billy Bob about how it's not a real sport.

That's not really "athleticism."

In the US, I think you could make an argument they aren't our best, but in other countries they are absolutely tier 1.

Ochocinco grew up playing soccer.

So a guy who probably hadn't played the sport in 20 years got embarrassed by someone who does it everyday? He was also 33 when this happened.

It has nothing to do with just "running more." You're ignoring the skill it takes to make finesse touches on the ball while doing all of this additional running. Most football players don't ever touch the ball. Baseball so too slow to even bother comparing. The closest competition is basketball (and hockey even though OP excluded it) in terms of athletic ability necessary to be elite. But those sports require completely different body types. Threads like this are just pointless.

I think true.

because you're ignorant. the best athletes in every country outside of the united states generally play soccer. they don't in the united states. unless you think that the united states simply has better athletes than the rest of the world, then this argument is ridiculous

Looking at the post he responded to would be helpful.

Read the OP.

His argument is that the athletes from NBA/MLB/NFL could form a team and beat other professional soccer teams.

Every soccer player I know only played soccer cause they couldn't make football, basketball or baseball team.

then you don't know many soccer players or the soccer leagues in your town are awful. we had plenty of soccer players that played football in the fall and soccer in the spring.

the reply he quoted said if they trained for a year, then he threw out the Ocho... not exactly proving the point since Ocho hadn't trained for a year, much less played in years, much less have the youth since 33 is old for a soccer player.

He still played it quite a bit and has always been a fan. He also wasn't competing against the starters. I believe he was with them for at least a month. I'm just showing that one year of training isn't going to do shite for you no matter how good of an athlete you are. And he even have some background in the sport, even though it was in his youth, which is more than a lot of these NFL/NBA/MLB players could say.

And 33 isn't that bad. Sure, that's old to still be on the national team, but not for a club.
