True New Yorkers are Mets fans

The Yankees is mostly for transplants and New Jersey residents. This is the impression I get. Am I right or wrong?

You are wrong. Also anecdotally I've noticed most Mets fans are social rejects and quite awkward

I would say newer transplants are Mets fans given the Yankees lack of any recent success. Plus, Citi Field is a better stadium than Yankee Stadium. Much better overall experience from food, entertainment, etc.

Mets fans are typically Long Island mouthbreathing dweebs who also root for the Jets and Islanders and sweat a lot

You are way wrong. If you are from Queens or Long Island, you are a Mets/Jets/Islanders fan.
Otherwise, you root for the Yankees/Giants/Rangers

From what I've seen and heard, Jets/Mets fans are almost all blue collar and Giants/Yankees fans are more white collar

During the month I spent in NOLA after Katrina, working with the firefighters from NY, they told us the real NY'ers were Mets fans. They said the Yankees were for the tourists and locals who were there b/c it was a place to be seen.
