I really don’t think it’s fair to judge an athlete on one instance. Maybe the guy was having a bad day. I’m not saying these guys aren’t a-holes, but they might not be. If we have learned one thing over the past decade of the celebrity athlete: we do not know these people. At all. For all we know, Bonds is a really nice guy away from the game, he just puts on his mean face when he goes to work because he thrives on being the villain. Anyone who is friends with Cal Ripken can’t be all bad…
I’ve heard enough Willie Mays stories to feel confident to say he’s a jerk. Rickey Henderson flipped me off once, but I sort of deserved it, so he gets a pass. And it was pretty funny.
