I have met Roy on numerous occasions and he was great. He would sign autographs anytime. I met him pumping gas at a gas station in Ensley, he went in to the store to get some coffee and signed everyone that wanted an autograuph in the store before he left. (No charge, no bitching and whining). Also at Cordova Mall shopping, he had a line of people following him around and signed every autograph requested.

Joey Belle FTW!

quote:

In 1990, he threw a baseball into the stands, where it struck a fan who had taunted him by yelling, "Keg party at my house, Joey," a reference both to Belle's prior nickname and his stints in alcohol rehabilitation.

quote:

He also chased down rowdy trick-or-treating vandals who were celebrating Halloween by throwing eggs at his home; Belle ended up hitting one of the vandals with his car.

quote:

A profane outburst directed at a group of reporters in his team's dugout, including NBC Sports personality Hannah Storm, was widely reported during the 1995 World Series. Later, Belle was unrepentant: "The Indians wanted me to issue a statement of regret when the fine was announced, but I told them to take it out. I apologize for nothing."

quote:

It was a taken in baseball circles that Albert Belle was nuts... The Indians billed him $10,000 a year for the damage he caused in clubhouses on the road and at home, and tolerated his behavior only because he was an awesome slugger... He slurped coffee constantly and seemed to be on a perpetual caffeinated frenzy. Few escaped his wrath: on some days he would destroy the postgame buffet...launching plates into the shower... after one poor at-bat against Boston, he retreated to the visitor's clubhouse and took a bat to teammate Kenny Lofton's boombox. Belle preferred to have the clubhouse cold, below 60 degrees, and when one chilly teammate turned up the heat, Belle walked over, turned down the thermostat, and smashed it with his bat. His nickname, thereafter, was "Mr. Freeze.

I haven't read this thread because it's too long when I came in. But I've known a lot of people who encountered Will Clark. They all said he was he biggest arse hole in the history of arse holes.

Emmitt Smith, He had his mom signing autograuphs at his collectible store in Pensacola, FL. Plus he charged for every one that he ALLEGEDLY signed.

A complete selfish a-hole. This from Jeff Pearlman's Boys Will Be Boys:

quote:

Teammates were torn. Some loved Smith for his toughness. Others resented him for his selfishness and arrogance. He often refused to sign autographs. He would walk past fellow Cowboys without saying a word. When teammates opened their Christmas gift from Smith, they were less-than-shocked to uncover a copy of his own autobiography. Aikman gave golf clubs, Irvin gave bubbly, Smith gave … The Emmitt Zone? “Emmitt would score a touchdown from the two-yard-line, keep the football and sell it at his souvenir shop back home in Pensacola,” says Dale Hansen, the Cowboys radio announcer. “I thought that was both odd and selfish.” Cornerback Clayton Holmes never forgot an incident that took place during the after-party following Super Bowl XXVII, when he approached Smith about signing an autograph for his mother, Claudia. “Man, I ain’t signing shite!” Smith barked. “If I sign that, I have to to sign for everybody else in here.” Holmes’ mother was standing nearby, mortified and embarrassed. “Emmitt has those moments,” says Holmes. “And you just think, ‘Why be like that? Why?’”

Barroid Bonds. I had seats behind home plate in 2002 for a Braves-Giants game. Some fans, kids included, were trying to get Bonds autograph. Bonds stopped and asked the group "Is this all you f-ing people do? Come to ballparks and ask for autographs all day?"

Emmitt Smith. I have a personal story about him.

When I was a little kid, my dad was waiting in line at a Cowboy's souvenir shop in Dallas trying to get me an Emmitt autograph at a signing. The end time for the autograph signing with Emmitt was 3 pm. He stopped signing around 2:45 and him and his managers shut the door on the face of the next kid in line, who was in a wheelchair, and had been waiting for almost an hour. My dad was around 10 people behind him and saw everything.

Oh and I never got my Emmitt Smith autograph

Chuck Knoblauch--long list of stories, of course steroids. Example:
quote:

Knoblauch was walking toward the team hotel when a 15-year-old boy asked him for an autograph. Knoblauch ignored him. Just as Knoblauch reached the door, the kid yelled, "Knoblauch, you suck!" Knoblauch spun around, backed the kid against a wall and cursed him out. The cops were called. The kid said Knoblauch had torn his shirt and scratched his neck. Knoblauch said he hadn't laid a hand on the kid. No charges were pressed.
