Are you seriously asking what safety we would rather have play DL? What a stupid hypothetical

I'd rather have Mingo play safety before Ngata, but that doesn't make Mingo the better player.

THE INDIANAPOLIS COLTS ARE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TEAM WITH BOB SANDERS!!!

And even without Sanders, Clark, and a ton of other players they were still able to make the playoffs thanks to Peyton.

If the Colts lose Manning they probably win 4 games and have one of the worst offenses in the NFL.

Without Polamalu, the Steelers still have easily the best LBs in the league as well as two pro bowl caliber DL. Last season with Polamalu hurt the Steelers had the #5 D in the NFL. When he missed time in 2007, they still had the #1 D in the NFL. So you lose him and still have a top 5 D, sounds like an MVP to me

As far a value goes, Polamalu isn't anywhere nere Brady, Brees, Manning or Rodgers. Anyone that can't see that is blind. That isn't taking anything away from Polamalu he's amazing, but without him the Steelers are still a very good D. Without Manning the Colts are battling for the #1 pick in the draft. Same with the Saints and Brees. The Pats and Packers would be stuggling to reach .500 without Brady or Rodgers.

All I was simply doing was showing SFP that Reed isn't close in terms of tackles.

Tackle count is one of the worst defensive metrics out there for a number of reasons including but not limited to the arbitrary manner in which a tackle and an assist can be recorded. Many players have their tackle stats padded just by jumping on the pile or get an assist for being next to the tackle, for example. Plus, if you're a safety with a lot of tackles, then your team's defense isn't that great...

Remember when they won the SB? People forget that the Colts gave up MORE yards per carry when Sanders was there than when he was out...

Troy p and reed play close to the line alot, so it's not really bad, but you're right about tackles being easy to rack up, which is why I listed solo tackles...as I said yesterday, ints and tds are way more valuable to a defense than tackles...Ed reed excels in both categories. Troy p is great and he makes a big difference...just shows you how awesome Ed reed is that he is a far superior player to a great player like Polamalu

INTs and TDs are significantly more important than tackles, especially when the difference in tackles per game is like .1.

Saying that Pitts D blows without Polamalu is not a valid argument as to why he is better. This thread is full of homerism for Polamalu. Look at the argument without any bias and it is pretty obvious which is better.

They both are outstanding tho.

that's not always a fact. Some of the best defenses of all times had run stopping safeties. I don't have the stats in front of me to back it up, but I'd imagine Ronnie Lott led a lot of those 49er superbowl teams in tackles.

But I've also seen teams where the Free Safety is either the leader or top 2 or 3 in tackles and yeah..Those are shite defenses. But having a SS towards the top doesn't necessarily mean a defense is terrible. A lot of times they are such a hybrid and ball hawkish, they can stack the LOS, stop the run and if need be, be pretty fricking legit in coverage too.
