Interesting. Who would you put at 3 (sticking to everyday players so Kershaw is out)? I would probably say Arenado right now but Machado and Lindor are also close.

Probably Machado, but Lindor, Bryant, Betts, Seager, and Correa all could have a case (assuming we are still looking at it as over the next five years). I like Arenado a lot as well, but he is a little behind that group for me.

i mean harper is pretty much having a slightly poorer mans bonds type season right now with his power and ability to get on base

I mean he has a 132 wRC+ on the year. He has been a little unlucky though. Based on Statcast xwOBA, which is just based on exit velocities and launch angles, he has been a top ten hitter on the year.

Harper's ceiling is higher, but Trout is so consistent. I would pick Trout.

Let's go a bit more than 31 games before we use this season to supersede the last 5 seasons of Trout.

Also, Harper's OPS+ is 217, Trout 210. Not that much of a difference after you adjust for the factors.

I stand by my comment. You know exactly what you're getting with Trout every single season. With Harper, you're hoping he gives you that same amount every season. That's the difference.

If his ceiling is higher than Trout's, that's quite something right there. Not sure I agree with that premise, though.

Ditto. Harper's offensive potential is scary and limitless but Trout puts up 9 WAR seasons every year like clockwork. It's hard not to stick with Trout for now.

this would be the second time in three season that he is having a monster season. i dont even know how much truth there is to this now. as long as hes healthy, i feel pretty good about harper going forward

i feel like kershaws season is going really under the wraps right now. i think theres legit concern that he may no longer be the demigod that hes been the past 4 seasons and it has to do with his slider. if theres any one pitcher to figure it out its him, but hes just been really good this year and not the frick your face dominant like he has been

Basically like 1.2 seasons, not simultaneously.

Trout's at 5.2 seasons simultaneously of epic play.

and there are a lot of rumors that he was dealing with shoulder issues last year that prevented him from getting the same kind of power into his swing and also put a really big hole on pitchers up and away

as long as he can stay healthy then i feel pretty good about having harper going forward.

if youd rather have trout going forward thats fine. i wouldnt argue against anyone doing so. i would just personally rather have harper

I got blasted for saying Harper was overrated last year. In 5 seasons he's hit over .275 once.

Harper is a great player, but he was hyped up as the 2nd coming of Jesus. You need to hit better than .275 and get more than 25 hrs on a regular basis to be a superstar. He's good defensively and gets on base but the hype still follows him and people look at him as if hes better than what he has shown so far.
