Are you not okay with coaches getting technicals on purpose to rally the team/crowd? Should they just coach better?

Why not use every tool in the box? I’m not saying Trae deserves a hard foul there—I’m just saying I understand the desire to save some face if he’s gonna embarrass you like that

It's no more disrespectful than a stiff arm or an ankle breaking juke in football. Don't like it, play better defense. The hard foul after is a bitch move. As a long time striker, I can appreciate the nutmeg.

This

It's slightly less of a bitch move than the pitcher throwing at the next batter's head after giving up a homer, but a bitch move nonetheless.

His little celebration that he likes to add often is kind of a bitch move as well.

Same thought. He takes so many steps in between dribbles. Rule experts, what is the rule here?

There is no rule on steps in between dribbles. So long as it's not a carry or a double dribble you can take as many as you want.

Ariza was assessed a flagrant. I don’t really consider it a bitch move to trade a flagrant for your pride and to prevent an easy look.

All of those transactions are above board, IMO. Trae helping himself to some nuts, Ariza giving him a grown-man shoulder right back, and Trae taking it in stride and shooting his FTs with no fuss.

Whining about it afterwards? Sure, bitch move. But if you’ve got the foul to give, it’s probably worth it sometimes.

I don't know what you are talking about. I'm not okay with false equivalencies, tho.

It’s not remotely confusing. You said guys should play better defense instead of giving the hard foul when they get beat. I presented a similar scenario that I suspected you would feel differently about in order to further explore your aversion to the nutmeg foul.

Keep doing it if you want but be prepared to take a foul. I think Ariza played it perfectly.

Stern yet clean foul I have no issue with

Cheap shots are always in poor taste

I would rather be victim of a nutmeg than a crossover. You can shrug off the nutmeg as a gimmick type move.

The nutmeg is a thing of beauty. I play pick up and make nutmeg passes all the time. Grew up playing baseball so I can deliver passes side arm which makes nutmeg passing pretty easy. Not quite quick enough to do the nutmeg dribble. It’s really not a hard move to do if you just wait for the defender to give you an opening. The way Trae has incorporated it into his game is brilliant. It’s as smooth as any professional’s in soccer I’ve seen.

He took about 7 steps on the Ariza play. Jesus.

And carried the ball.
