It's always awesome when guts and shear willpower pulls off a breakaway stage win.

That was great.

Alaphilippe is the best bike rider in the peloton, only argument is Sagan. My pick to win it, Pinot, showed up today as well.

Thomas, Pinot, Fuglsang podium is my prediction.

Wellens going after that cat 1 tomorrow. I know Ciccone wants to grab mountain points as well, but he will draw too much attention from peloton. Meurisse and Wellens will go for it tomorrow with a handful of guys. It will be interesting to see if a guy like Van Avermaet sees a chance for the break to survive and goes in it.

Pretty sure I can enter and win this. The amount of hype a bike riding event gets is insane

It'd be a win if you finished a stage.

Wtf was Trek's game plan coming into today? Everyone knew what JA was going to do and it seemed like they were I'll prepared to defend the yellow today so they can keep it for a few more days. He'll keep that thing for a while.

I’ve got a much bigger problem with Astana and EF...what was the end game for them? Anyway...stage actually delivered some results in the end. DeGendt rode his azz off!

Astana

So being that Astana isn't even a real city anymore, how long will the team continue to be called that?

(The former capital of Kazakhstan is now called NurSaltan.)

That was an exciting and fun stage.

I like when they show their speed in MPH. They can cruise along on the flats at 35. A group of weekend cyclists will do good to run around 25 when working hard.

Trek was trying to allow the breakaway to win so Alaphilippe wouldn’t get the time bonuses. EF was trying to setup Woods, who crashed and took out most of Ineos with him. I’m guessing Astana felt either Fuglsang or a Lutsenko could deliver a stage win.

Your mom strapping a bike helmet on your head every morning before putting you on the short bus does not equate to you being a pro cyclist.

A great day of sport means I will probably be relegated to just the highlights but I expect it will be good crowds with a Frenchman in yellow on Bastille day.

I’ve backed him to be KoM and I think it is dead in the water thanks to his incredible display inthe first week

Edit: I see there has been some complaints about Allaphilipe and Pinot drafting behind the tv bikes. And I 100% think that the tv cameras will have done that on purpose

I would give you $10,000 in cash if you could hang on to the very rear of the peloton for only 15 minutes.

NBCSN has not aired highlights. Yesterday they only had the live coverage, I don't know what today holds.

Watching the ad-free complete race on NBC Gold is the only way to go if you’re in to cycling. Every major race throughout the year is included.

To be honest you never specified which 15 minutes. Are we talking last few K of a stage or are we talking about during the middle of a stage??

Anyone who has cycled knows sitting behind a huge pack makes it significantly easier to pedal and while I may not be able to race those last few K, I’m pretty confident I could make 10k pedaling at the back of the peloton during the middle of a stage.

During one of the stages and sections where the peloton just loafs along a Cat 4 or above cyclist would have no problem hanging on the rear for quite a while. Any serious acceleration would probably drop them pretty quickly. I will say I bet dropping the average Cat 4 or 5 in the MIDDLE of the peloton (if the other riders didn't know there was a dufus in their midst) would result in them taking out most of the peloton behind them in short order.

It’s very doubtful anyone in this thread has ridden 15km with riders on both sides in front and behind all within a 1m radius of you. Let alone doing it at a meandering pace of 40-50km an hour.

A normal person would get twitchy and crash

id be so uptight my thighs would seize up.

I can never get over how they take the turns within the peloton.
