Yea, this bothers me too. It would be like the Baton Rouge Red Sticks.

Bears and Bulls, bro...please say you get it now
Not sure what you mean by this, unless you're referring to the stock market, but I don't think they're really related. The Bears were named after the Cubs because they played their early years at Wrigley Field. The Bulls were named after Chicago's meatpacking industry, as a previous poster stated.

Atlanta Falcons
Nashville Predators - I mean, Jesus, your logo is a goddamned saber-toothed tiger. And your team is in Nashville.
Now i'll flip the script and say that there never has been a more APPROPRIATE team name than the Phoenix Coyotes.

I think the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim is the winner. The name just makes no sense.

Can someone tell me how the Minnesota Twins got their nickname?

Well I think they were called the Jazz because they came from somewhere else that made more logical sense and then moved to Utah
Yeah, New Orleans.

What I wanted was the return of the Oilers, but f*@k But Adams. That's a hate I'll likely never get over, I hate him like I don't hate anyone. I grew up with the Oilers, they were Houston's team. He could move the players, could take the coaches, but the Oilers should have stayed in Houston.

Also, I think "Columbus Crew" is a pretty shitty name too.

when i was younger i thought it was clever as shite that chicago, who housed the Chicago Stock Exchange, named their two teams after bear and bull markets. now, i'm not as impressed with those names (if that is why they named them).

I mean, I'm (kind of) a Crew fan, so I'm a little biased, but I like this name, and think it's (at least a little) accurate (though it'd be better for a city like Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, etc).

I don't like "Houston Texans" from a marketing standpoint. It's a nickname that excludes people.
If you're from Arkansas or Louisiana or Oklahoma, are you going to be all fired up for... the Texans?
Their name alone tells you they're not interested in you or your support.

Texan isn't just a name for the native, so much as it was the identity of the state's/republic's military during the Texas Revolution. So in that sense, it carries more weight than your average state's term for its natives.
And also, I don't think it's a jab at the Dallas Texans, just the extension of a throwback name.
I mean, thinking of it in superficial terms, wouldn't the Packers, Browns, Bills, Steelers all have "lame" names?
I think that the good names are the ones that the local culture can identify with, and Texans (in the military sense) does that.
