This should be top 6 point guards IMO because is the number of elite point guards in the NBA.

That being said, early in the season I had.
1. CP3
2. Williams
3. Rose
4. Nash
5. Rondo
6. Westbrook

Last season, I had Nash at one, instead of four. Now, I think I will go, but this list is very fluid and could change every day if I wanted to.
1. Williams
2. Rose
3. Nash
4. Paul
5. Rondo
6. Westbrook

I had him there until the 41% shooting month he had and some of those subsequent woeful games.

Now it's Rose/Westbrook 1a and 1b, in whatever order you wish.

to me?

Rose #1 and then a worthwhile debate about who is #2

I have not looked at the stats with these guys or anything except PER, and that favors Paul for sure.
PER-wise from what I remember:
1. Paul
2. Westbrook
3. Rose
4. Nash
5. Williams
6. Parker

Rondo gets raped on PER.

My biggies on this subject or anyone that puts Rondo ahead of Paul or Dwill. That irks me.

ANd we obviously now know, the notion that rose is magically clearly better than Westbrook also irks me to no end. And I much rather watch Rose play, so I'm no hater there.

After Rose/Westbrook, it'd probably be some combo of Paul/Dwill than Nash/Rondo, in those 2 player groups.

After the 5 I mentioned is where guys like Lowry, Parker, Nash, and Kidd come into play. They aren't elite, but they are very very good.

The guys who pound there fist on the table about Kobe and 5 rings should also have Parker #1, or close to it. For consistency's sake.

3 titles and an NBA Finals MVP. That's 3 more titles than most of our top 5 COMBINED.

I'll say this... if Derrick Rose gets the MVP this year, CP got SHAFTED a few years back.

DR 2011 - 25ppg--8apg--4rpg--1stl

CP 2008 - 23ppg--11apg--5.5 rpg--3stl

I still think CP is the best pure PG in the game.

he's consistently top 3 in assists and steals. That's what point guards do.

Probably just depends on how you define elite.

I'd say Rose/Westbrook/Paul/Dwill have set themselves apart and established a solid top tier, and I'd consider them only in elite status.

But that's a very subjective debate there.

I know you're not supposed to compare it across years, but yea, your point still stands, lol.

I must have been in a coma the year Tony Parker won an NBA MVP... or was in the top 10 of voting.

He's not even the second most likely to win an MVP on his own team.

eta.... it was fixed.

Fixed. Amazing what forgetting one simple word does to a statement, lol.

And to go even further... Kobe beat out CP3 that year.

Kobe averaged 3 more points and one more rebound in 2008 compared to 2011.... but he's not even in the conversation this year.

This is your worst point you bring to the board, shel311, and the vast majority of your posts are good. I know it is a rebuttal to Gamecock's oft flawed logic, but Kobe is still one of the two best players in the world. Parker is never mentioned in being the best point guard. One thing that you fail to consider in this endless Lebron-Kobe debate is the "story" element. This is a much more common practice with baseball, but I think can appropriately cross this over to other sports. When I saw the Lakers play in Atlanta (in person), the crowd treated Kobe like a god. There was a standing ovation for when he tied his shoes. This stature he has obtained (by bandwagon fans or not) gives it a legitimate argument for him to be #1. I am not saying you can ignore stats or that Kobe is the best, but sometimes you have to appreciate the reactions he generates.

It's a lot like the Heisman tho. MVP/Heisman goes to someone who gets the press interest behind him... it is not awarded based on who is really the best in a particular year

CP3 on the Hornets had the same chance as Larry Fitzgerald on Pitt

I think the point you're missing is that when asked why Kobe is the best in the game now, those who think that immediately say 5 rings. That's there top reason why. Therefore I do think it is failed logic on there part.

I intentionally don't consider that. When I think of these top player or top 5 PG debates, it is strictly based on on the court production. That's just me though.

Different situations and you know that. Has Parker ever legitimately had a case to say he's the best PG in the game at any point in his career?

i just think it's flawed logic that 3 rings and a Finals MVP gets him absolutely zero clout.

Maybe not as the best, obviously,b ut it doesn't even allow him to jump over other guys.
