Sam Montgomery not in the top 5 makes this list terrible fwiw.
Hmm, I don't know about this...
I agree that he's good, but top 5 is maybe a little reaching. Corey Lemonier isn't even included in the list, and he put up very identical stats to Montgomery and he is by far our best defensive player. Him not being included is a definite snub, imo.

If Sam would have declared this year he wouldve been a top 10 pick so id say he should be up there

So insanely good. You know you're special when you make Robert Woods look average.
As a USC fan, do you really believe Lee is better than Woods?
From the games I saw, Woods might have been the best player in the nation. They both benefited from playing with each other, but I thought Lee benefited more from the attention that Woods got than vice versa.

From the first 4 games last year, I believed Woods could win the Biletnikoff Award with his jaw dropping numbers...Lee was just a freshman...but as the season wore on he emerged and flashed his talent.
He's the best receiver I've seen at USC talent-wise and if things go right can be special at the next level especially as a deep threat.
Woods is strong, good hands and speed and is physical. But Lee is like a gazelle with amazing body control - he's just far more dynamic with greater talent - his talent just jumps off the screen.

But this isn't the NFL Draft...
Great college players don't always make great NFL players. Colt Brennan is a prime example. Coming off his Junior year, you know he'd be top 10 on this list. His game didn't translate to the NFL though. Sam is a great player, but I can't see him being top 5-10. And if he should be, where does that put Corey Lemonier? Their seasons were pretty equal, CL just played on a bad defense.

God awful list Sammy Watkins and Tyrann Mathieu are the top 2 players in the country
Glad to see Klein getting respect he shouldn't be #3 but he is definitely top 10

Yep. As a true freshman last year he was right there with Woods. This season I think he'll surpass woods as the best receiver at USC. And Robert Woods is one of the best WR's in the country.
It is going to be fun to watch them this season.

Da'Ricky is about 17 spots too far down the list.
And he's not even the best WR on the team.

should not be in the top 50 IMO!

1. QB Matt Barkley, Sr., USC
2. WR Marqise Lee, So., USC
3. QB Collin Klein, Sr., Kansas State
4. RB Montee Ball, Sr., Wisconsin
5. DE/OLB Jarvis Jones, Jr., Georgia:
6. WR Sammy Watkins, So., Clemson
7. QB Tyler Wilson, Sr., Arkansas
8. CB Tyrann Mathieu, Jr., LSU
9. WR Robert Woods, Jr., USC
i'm just going to go ahead and mentally prepare myself for a year-long USC suckfest on ESPN

Tyrann is great and everything, but that guy from NC State, Amerson, is probably the best Non-D line defensive player in the country...if not the best defensive player period, he is a fricking beast.
Amerson vs. Sammy Watkins is maybe the most anticipated matchup for me this entire season. Those two are both absolute freaks.

Not even the best WR on his own team, did this guy not watch any football last year?
I don't even think it's debatable. Lee is better than Woods, and Woods is an absolute stud. That's how good Lee is. Lee and Watkins are as good a pair (and you could actually argue they were better) as Julio/AJ were.

ESPN Piece on Marquise Lee

He's far and away the best DE in college football. He plays the run exceptionally well, and can rush the passer with the best of them. He has the numbers AND would have been a top 10 pick if he came out this year. This isn't some kid with good measurable from West Bumfrick University in Shithole Louisiana, he's done it at the highest level in the toughest conference in CFB.

It isn't arguable they Lee and Watkins are significantly better

I won't be able to discuss this long due to class, but I'll respond later this evening when I get home for sure...
Let's look at some stats that Sam Montgomery and Corey Lemonier put up in the SEC.
quote:
Corey Lemonier
13 games played, 13.5 TFL, 9.5 sacks, and 47 tackles
quote:
Sam Montgomery
14 games played, 9 sacks, 49 tackles, and 13.5 TFL
Now, all that taken into account, Montgomery played a whole game more... Also, both LSU and Auburn rotate defensive linemen like noone else. However, with LSU having more threats on the defensive side of the ball, it's easier for a team to gang up on Lemonier and try to take him out of the game. Both are great players, but there's no reason for Lemonier to be completely left off the list if Montgomery is indeed a top 5 player.

The Bednarik award winner/All American CB/arguably the best PR coming back is the 8th best player in the country according to this guy. Ha.
If this list is based on returning players' accomplishments from last year, Ball and TM7 would have to be top 2. Barkley is no doubt the best QB in the country next year, and in terms of pro potential coupled with previous achievements, he can definitely make a case to be #1. However, it is hard to say that any player, at their respective position, had as good of a year as either Montee Ball or Tyrann Mathieu.
