Not who had the best career, but who were the most overall talented baseball players ever during their peak. You could even choose someone who got hurt and never made the Bigs for the purpose of this discussion. My (initial) list in no particular order:

Babe Ruth
Willie Mays
Hank Aaron
Mickey Mantle
Barry Bonds
Dave Winfield
Dale Murphy
Griffey, Jr.
A-Rod
Josh Hamilton/Larry Walker

Granted, I haven't put that much thought into my list, but I do think this is an interesting and different discussion than the usual one that judges "careers."

Well, if your other tools make up for lack of a 5th, you can be included. Trying to find the greatest all-around players. Ruth's dominance on the mound and at the plate puts him in this discussion.

Ruth did steal 121 bases in his career.

Of course, he was caught 117 times too.

I think Larry Walker would shite himself if he knew his skill set was being compared to Ruth, Mays, Aaron, Mantle, etc.

Maybe, but he was without a doubt one of the overall most talented baseball players who ever lived. Injuries prevented him from having probably an all-time career.

Not necessarily a pre-req for my list, feel free to have any criteria for yours you like though. But he is a good baserunner, and he did play CF.

I've always thought he might very well be the most talented baseball player who ever lived.

Maybe too early to put him up there with the greats on this list, but he was considered as the poster boy for 5 tool player coming out of high school. Along the lines as the greatest all around baseball prospect ever. So he certainly belongs on a list of great 5 tool players, but maybe not greatest ever

The tool is speed not base stealing ability..
so like speed on defense and extra base hits and stuff go into that as well.

The Duke is often mentioned in this arguement.
