Sorry, but I don't get it. Good coach, but when other coaches such as Jimmy Johnson aren't in I have no idea why Dungy deserves it. Is it as more or a career induction as a player, coach, commentator?

The media likes him and he legitimized TB from nothing in addition to the SB. JJ should be in though since he built the team of the 90's.

He is black. This is the bottom line fact answer.
Maybe true but If he didn't win the Super Bowl he wouldn't have got in though
so jim caldwell is borderline?

This. He is 29th in total wins but almost every coach with more than him that has a Super Bowl is also a HOFer. 12th highest winning percentage of all time. He belongs

his game planning in Tampa was asinine to say the least

run up middle, run up middle, inc, punt

try to score on defense or play for field advantage

it was terrible at times, the play calling on offense and such a waste of a very good defense.

Yeah I don't get it.

Only argument I would take is that he was the first black head coach to win a Super Bowl and he has been an important face for the NFL for a long time.

He might not have been dominating the W/L charts, but he has had a good influence on a number of people both as a coach and as a media guy.

The reason you're even questioning this is because he's black.

You need to add in his years as DC he is the reason for the Rooney Rule also, so the social change is big impact. I have no issue with his inclusion. But Johnson needs in soon, if not before Dungy though.

I was going to post this and also mention that he did build Tampa into a Super Bowl Contender, which deserved a lot of credit. He was also a pretty could defensive coordinator and assistant coach as well. It is definitely not an affirmative action vote.

It's amazing the narrow-minded views some people have about minorities and their accomplishments. His performance and accomplishments speak for themselves.

Wrong. Terrell Davis belongs over Dungy.

I don't understand why Dungy is in the HOF before Holmgren. Both retired in the same year but Holmgren has the stronger resume. He coached in three Super Bowls while Dungy coached in just one. Holmgren has 12 playoff appearances while Dungy has coached 11 playoff teams. Holmgren also has four more playoff wins than Dungy as well as a higher playoff winning percentage.

Jerry Rice only got in because he's black.

Agree about Holmgren and Johnson, too. I have no problem with Dungy making it, but his induction seems premature, especially before those two.

I know he didn't have a good playoff record, but George Allen had the 3rd best winning percentage in league history and he didn't get inducted until 2002...12 years after he died.

Good choice for Canton. Turned a perennial doormat into a contender in Tampa. Long, successful coaching career.

Johnson is also a good choice but some voters might consider his career too short.

His Miami stint also wasn't great, to be honest.

This is a travesty.... The dude brought a team from 1-15 and in three years had them in the SB.... A great job he did.... Dungy is more of a lifetime achievement award..............

Jimmy Johnson - what he did in college with Miami and Pros - and rebuilt that piece of crap 1-15 Dallas team to total dynasty in a few years - obviously is a HOFer.

Barry Switzer has one of his rings too.
