The grandson of the man who fired him just won the Tom Landry Award.

quote:

The accolades continue to accumulate for Highland Park quarterback John Stephen Jones, who won the prestigious Tom Landry Award.

After leading the Scots to the Class 5A Division I state title last year, Jones has put together one of the most impressive seasons for a Dallas-area quarterback in recent memory, having passed for almost 4,000 yards with 52 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He’s also rushed for nine scores entering Friday’s state semifinal showdown with Denton Ryan.

Jones, of course, is the grandson of Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys — the team that the award’s namesake coached for more than three decades.

HP is the wealthiest area in Dallas. Matthew Staford went to HPHS.

Because an excellent high school athlete, who just happens to be Jerry's grandson, won the award?

I mean, if he won it while having a mediocre season, that's one thing. But near 4000 yards passing and 61 TDs is pretty damn impressive and deserving.

How are people still butt hurt about the Landry firing?

Tom Landry had 3 straight losing seasons in 1986, 1987, and 1988

He was then fired.

Dallas then won 3 Super Bowls in the next 7 years

He and Matthew Stafford were teammates on the football team.

And at one time both were the highest paid players in their respective sports.

He's already been offered a full ride by Chad Morris.

Another side story to this... HP's coach Randy Allen wears a fedora on the sideline

he wouldnt care, most likely wouldnt care if the son won it, just as long as the guy who fired him was never honored by an award in his name. landry was a class act

I just moved there this week. Guess I know where I’ll be some Friday nights next season.
