I'm a Mett homer so take it FWIW, but I also really liked Mariota at Oregon. To me, the Titans should have known QB wasn't their only problem. With all the rumored trade hauls they could have pulled off for that #2 pick, I still just don't see how you can justify the Mariota pick over possibly getting up to three first rounders and whatever other gaggle of players/picks you could have very easily commanded.

Offensive line and defense was Tennessee's problem

Do you really think they would have turned down 3 1's?
The rumors were just that rumors. Mariota was the highest rated guy left to them and they took him.
This is starting to become Wilson/Flynn light.

No way. Mett has an incredibly high ceiling right now and could honestly light it up if he went to the right situation. I still think Mariota is going to be a very good QB in the league, so to me the argument isn't really between them two. It's more I think they just should ave gone in a different direction in the draft to build around what they already had. I think it was a big opportunity wasted.

We have a franchise QB on our team.
Mariotas not bad either.

I don't know how you can say which QB is better out of Mett or Marcus. We haven't seen enough, IMO. I do think that Mett has the ability to be a great QB based on what I've seen from him. He has plenty of time to prove himself whether it's with this team or another. What I do think is that the Titans should have made a better decision with their first round pick because I think Mett can be a great starter in this league. Maybe they don't like what they've seen from Mett. I don't know, but I do know that Mett will get a chance here or somewhere else.

Dear God.
The purple and gold bias is strong in this one. Some of you are so delusional it's beyond correction.
I like Mett. I liked him at LSU. But how any of you (the majority of which don't follow the Titans at all) can say with a straight face that Mett is by far the better QB right now after two preseason games is mindboggling.

I think it's hilariously awesome. I knew a Mett thread would start on the Rant last night so I went in and just threw his stats up and a comment hoping to get 100 downvotes
Mett is a good QB but the fact that Mariotta did really well over all in his SECOND PRESEASON game and Mett is in his second year people can't understand that. People act like he is an all pro that is getting the shaft. Maybe one day he may make a pro bowl but he didn't win over the organization last year. He had his chance. Hopefully he gets another chance with another team. It won't be this year. No way the Titans get rid of a quality second string QB when they have that offensive line and how many injuries they had last year at QB. If anything Mett may be able to thank the Titans later like Flynn should for the Packers. Show some flash and get a good second contract.

I disagree with some of what you've said.
Do I think Mett got a fair shake last year? Not particularly. Being one of the few posters on here that actually watched every minute of every Titans game last year, I can say that the team had pretty much quit by the time Mett got his starts. Yea, they played hard for a half or so against the Steelers on national TV. But for the most part, they packed it in.
From everything I've heard in and around Nashville, Mett simply didn't take the opportunity as seriously as he should've over the last 5-6 games last year. Maybe he realized his teammates were done (and that locker room was a mess at the end) but the brass within the organization didn't view him as a guy to be the face of the franchise at this point.
I have no doubt they value him as a Titan. But drafting Mariota was more of an indictment on their feelings about Mariota than their thoughts on Mett and LSU fans very quickly lose sight of that.
Edit: and regardless of how Mariota turns out, I find it humorous how people on here who probably haven't watched a full Titans game in years (not that I blame you) are experts on what the organization needs to do to get better. Some big time sportscenter SME's in here

Last year, as a first time rookie starter in the NFL, he averaged 226 yds per game with a 83.4 rating with an awful line and team. Those numbers are better than guys like Brady, Manning, Luck etc. He looked damn polished at throwing the ball downfield last year. That is why alot of people were surprised when the Titans didnt want to trade for picks around Mett
Just because Mett played for LSU, doesnt mean people are wrong when they say he is good

I think people just see Mariota is from Oregon and think he just runs and really do not watch how he protected the ball, threw the ball, and played the position. They also think he is doomed to fail because he is not from the SEC.
It is no shame in being a backup in the NFL, there are only 64 other guys in the world that can say they are a backup QB, with 32 more saying they are a starter.

Ugh..... Just forget it. I give up.
You just compared Mettenburger to this generation's first ballot Hall of Famers.
Carry on.

But you also compared two different eras and two different styles of offense.
