So if a golfer won 19 majors but only won 3 regular tour events in 500 starts, you would consider them the GOAT.

I agree and its a pointless argument. The GOAT is really a collection of career wins. More than majors must be considered

this is what he laughed at. apparently he doesn't think it is a reason to believe tiger is the GOAT. that's ok.

Negative. You're putting words in my mouth.

he is one of those guys that will say, "but jack had more seconds!!" and "he beat ray floyd!!!" when tiger gets to 19

First, no. You need to go back to previous discussions I've had with people. I agree that he has more seconds, and that's pretty impressive, but I don't make excuses for him like a lot of Tiger fans do to make my point or force the fact that he's a GOAT. Second, when Tiger gets to 19, I will acknowledge the fact that he is the GOAT, however slightly that may be. Don't generalize me, you obviously haven't paid attention to any of my previous posts except the ones in this thread.

Dumb argument is dumb. No one would consider that.

if anything, this new revelation makes Tiger more likeable because he intentionally fricked with Sergio

I agree with this

We had 2 days worth of discussions and the Tigertards all screamed, "Why would Tiger do that on purpose? It makes no sense to do that. Tiger doesn't need shenanigans to win." Now proof comes out that Tiger at least lied about his conversation with the marshal, and the Tigertards are screaming a new tune, "Tiger is in Sergio's head, awesome move."

You guys are like the Obamabots. "Obama wouldn't do that, Tea Party racists, religious right zealots, etc." Then when further facts come out, "But Bush did it, so did Reagan. Obama is doing what they did."

Well, when they heard that remark from Woods, the marshals were surprised. One of them, Gary Anderson, said on Sunday, “He didn’t ask us nothing, and we didn’t say nothing. We’re told not to talk to the players.”

I guess passing grammar school is not a prerequisite to being a PGA marshal...

threeputt said he "only" considers majors in the GOAT discussion. I was simply posting a hypo that tests the limits of his stated criteria.

I am not so fast to call that dumb .. I guess it all comes down to how much you value the Shell Houston Open and the like events.

I would have to think that if a guy could win 19 majors he would get serious consideration for GOAT ...

Did he do it on purpose?

Was he looking at Sergio and timed it perfectly?

NO and NO.

the rest of the discussion is just bs. sergio was trying to cause controversy. He was playing head games and failed.

Tiger has been in Sergio's head since 99, he doesn't need to do or say anything else. Look at how their careers have diverged.

There's been discussion that the previous barometer of G.O.A.T was number of wins. When it was apparent that Jack wasn't going to catch Sammy, it was changed to Majors.

For a time, Majors also included us amateur titles.

TW is the most accomplished man in golf history.

• 3 Consecutive US Jr amateur championships
• 3 consecutive US amateur championships
• NCAA individual champion.
• 78 PGA solo wins which is more than Snead.
• 14 Major championships.
• 8 Vardon Trophies
• 17 WGC wins

Im no golfguy or anything, but, in comparing the fields that two folks from different times played against, cant that be done by looking at the field's scoring average, a certain deviation of that average, and the number of players that were within that range? If more are in that range, isn't that a "deeper" field?

Nevermind. carry on.

wait tiger did it on purpose? link?

i think this is how it went down. tiger is not paying attention to sergio and can't see him because of the large crowd around him. he pulls the club out of his bag and the crowd cheers. tiger, realizing that sergio could be hitting, hushes the crowd. sergio talks to media and declares that tiger did it on purpose. tiger hears what sergio says and gets pissed. media asks tiger about it and tries to make sergio look like the arse by saying marshal told him sergio hit already. just my take.

Seriously, here is my question. Why does Tiger get the blame for taking a club out of his bag? Thats all that he did. The crowd were the ones who made the noise. Why should Tiger get the blame for a bunch of idiots not knowing how to act on a Golf Course? The lying thing, sure bust his chops for that.

Your theory is invalid.
