Keep money as far away from high school ball or you open up a can of worms. You want your school to be on television and the benefits that go with it.. well.. you better pimp my school to your elite player.

No sure yall realize what is going on here. UT has network (TV) contract. Exclusive. But they dont show but two UT games. The rest of the game are of high school games for UT recuits or players UT wants. If this works who long before bama and UF do they same things, of course we will too. But it is bullshite, nothinh but an end around and illegal recruiting move. Right up there with 7 on 7 bs

According to CBS Sports, the Longhorns are valued at approximately $119 million, and turned a $59 million profit last year. That's more than any other team by a large margin, you don't get there if you aren't loved outside of your own state.

Yeah, bull-fricking-shite.

This, if texas wants to air anything in reference to their athletic programs and the student athletes that are on campus. more power to them. Start entering high schools, is a entire different story.

H.S. football, soccer, b.b., baseball players ect, are NOT texas university student athletes. A "commitment" doesn't make them property of texas university.

i'm sure people would have felt a lot different had they televised j rascoe games last year.

Yes, it is. Texas broadcasting a game that would happen anyways is a LOT different than Texas organizing and broadcasting an All-Star Game.

If you can't see that, I don't know what to say.

As for the idea that Bama and Florida will get their own networks, too.

They won't. So stop worrying.

Beebe has said that the airing of high school games has been put on hold until they can investigate things. The longhorns are still inking deals with high schools as recently as this week. The NCAA is holding some type of conference in August to discuss the matter. A&M leadership has stated that there is "uncertainty" in the Big XII.

This is correct...I heard the big ix commish on the radio here in Dallas last week. Texas being allowed to air high school games is not a done deal. Beebe made it seem like it wasn't going to happen because it is a recruiting advantage. Sorry no link.

@TxTiger82

Yes high school games will be on TV regardless.... but this network will have burnt orange all over the field and TV screen.... so its not the same as seeing a regular game as if it was on ESPN 2 or FOX Southwest..... every other commercial will be talking about their university and every little camera man will be wearing burnt orange at the game.... etc etc..... so you see its not just another HS game on TV

As for Bama and Florida not getting their own networks.... how the hell would you know they wont? You say this but have nothing to support it..... if TU does it why in the hell wouldnt they?????

That is an unfair recruiting tool that no other school to my knowledge has.

I've already explained it. Those teams belong to the SEC, which is a much stronger conference than the Big XII was. The SEC will not allow one of its member institutions to start its own network.

The power conferences will dominate TV. Those left out of the new power conferences (including Big XII teams - that conference is falling apart) will start networks.

And again, there are only two teams that can pull it off. Texas. Notre Dame. Who else?

Right, the Big XII was always just a marriage of convenience. The North powers were always concerned about the power in the South which ultimately led to Nebraska and Colorado jumping ship. The SEC on the other hand HAS a network in place to broadcast 3rd tier athletic events. No single team could setup an alternative channel to broadcast 3rd tier games + high school sports under the current agreement.

Viewership will dominate TV.. always has and always will. The teams with the largest followings/most viewership will always be a part of power conferences as their value is too great. When the realignment cards fall, the smaller teams will probably get swallowed up by a CUSA/MWC looking to become a BCS member.

I think that remains to be seen. How much is NBC actually making on the ND deal? I bet they would have rather given that deal to a power conference as opposed to ND. Also, if no providers actually pick up the LHN (which is very expensive right now) what will that mean for the LHN and ESPN? Clearly ESPN has about 300 million reasons to make this successful and they certainly see high school games as a means to make that happen.

The PAC-12 has already stated that they will begin showing high school games on their network should the LHN be allowed to do so. This clearly affects recruiting as Texas is preparing to use the LHN as a recruiting tool, which is why this thread is on this board.

If the Big XII does break up and A&M, OU and OSU all go to other conferences, I think Texas might have no choice but to go independent. PAC-12, Big 10, ACC and SEC all have their own networks and the LHN would seemingly be a deal breaker to joining those conferences.

If that were the case, it would be very interesting to see the effects those moves would have on the recruiting landscape.
