it'd be funny if the catholic league football titleless streak continued indefinitely... (last title shaw in 1987)
but one of them is going to have a run in a year when WM gets knocked off early

Arkansas: 8 consectutive Track and Field national titles (1992-1999)
LSU (women): 11 consectutive Track and Field national titles (1987-1997)

quote:All landmark athletic achievements deal in extreme outliers, my friend. I do think of the many scenarios presented in this thread, the one you brought up was one of the most interesting.
That you had to go 12 and 8 years back to find two outliers proves my point.
When you consider that there is only one Heisman winner per year, the possibility of this happening is really limited. So if one happened in 1962, we can say one out of the last 47 winners has done it. For the sake of clean numbers, let's say one in the last 50 years, or 2 percent of the Heisman winners of the past 50 years.
I think that the fact that there are 2 examples in the past 12 years of athletes who at least had the apparent means to achieve it (being superstar football players playing basketball at powerhouse programs) would show that the achievement is not impossible. Improbable?--Absolutely, but all of the noteworthy athletic accomplishments are by definition, improbable, rare outliers.

a guy that good, the coach will let him do what he wants.
False. Coaches these days at top programs are on the hotseat for going 8-4. You lose your Heisman candidate QB because he got injured playing hoops will get you fired. Plus, your hoops playing QB (for example) has to choose basketball over spring practice or vice versa.
I don't think it will happen with basketball/football because college basketball is a mess and the best players are generally one and done
but obviously still happens in baseball/football - chad jones last year comes to my mind

Terrelle Pryor would have the chance to do this, but he chose to stick to football. Not sure if the strengthens or hurts the argument.

It can happen. I wouldn't put it in the never category.
Some of Federer's records in Tennis maybe.

They are referring to Dwayne Wade in the Miami-Dallas NBA Finals series in 2006.

And even when it happened in 1962, the Heisman winner was the second best college football player.

+1
You ain't going to see anyone win 5 consecutive Wimbledons in a row and damn sure won't see anyone come close to his career grand slam singles titles mark.

Part of my point. I'm not tossing "never" around very lightly with this one because athletes don't play multiple sports like they used to (due to the money issue), which makes the competition so much stronger.

Who was the first, if not the guy who won the Maxwell Award, the Voit Trophy, was SI's Sportsman of the Year, won 14 player of the year awards, and was a consensus first team All American?
What, you thought Jerry Stovall or Lee Roy Jordan should have won?
