Serena should cruise straight sets then Fed is up. I must see Keys play at 5:00 am.

Serena getting tested a little.

For MV’s file...

Of the conditions this year, Pierre-Hugues Herbert had something interesting to say after he played a five-setter on Tuesday: “The courts are much slower, the balls are fast, but only for a couple of games. In these conditions you have to be a little more patient.”

Fabio Fognini added: “I don't really like the balls. “When they are new, they are really fast, but after 10 minutes, they become like an orange. It's hard to move the ball.”

Thank you for the quotes. Yes Serena is getting tested pretty severely by Zidansek in this second set. Serena needs to finish her ever three set match she plays takes it toll on her.

Keys 3-3 in the first set and it 11:23 pm in Melbourne right now. That match will be delayed I’m sure.

ETA: This Thompson vs Fognini match is awesome tied up 4-4 in the 5th set. I can’t remember this many five set matches where the winner lost the first two sets.

Nah, just seemed odd.

Announcers said he hadn't won a 5-setter, live and learn.

They also said his deep Aussie run was last year.

Come on, guys. You have one job to do.

What a night for Paul and Sandgren!!

Two Americans took top 20 players into deep waters until their opponents got tight at the end.

Somebody needs to do an expose on the backroom dealings that go into how much focking sand they mix in the hard courts.

Because there are two possibilities:
1) they are actively tweaking the surface every year for reasons I can only speculate upon.
2) it's all in the players' heads.

I always liked that the USO was the faster hard court major, and the aussie was the slower one. But then for a couple years, aussie was playing like a wood floor, and apparently USO was slower than before. But then now aussie is slow again?

But regarding the balls: I do understand that beef, and think there should absolutely be uniformity on that front. There has always been variability in court conditions in the game of tennis. It's a unique and awesome part of the sport. But the balls shouldn't be different event to event. There should be a standard ball either across the board, or for each surface, imho.

For the Degenerate Files:

If you like Free Money, they are currently giving it away in the form of Teetsy-250 vs. dogshit milos. You're welcome.

Also, I'm gonna sprinkle Tennys +140 and Fritzy +110

I'm not the one complaining. I get it. I prefer the men's game, but she is in fact the best female tennis player who has ever walked planet Earth. And she's American. So, yeah, they're gonna show her.

She has a completely shitty attitude and it sucks to watch. I can’t wait for her to retire. Literally the last person on earth I want to see play tennis.

Amen brother. To top it off Mckenzie and Everett drool over her every match and it’s nauseating.

Yeah, I think the Rebound Ace was slow and the U.S. Open wanted to be quick (perhaps for Roddick?). But, it seemed like when the Aussie went to the Plexicushion, it upped the pace a bit. I forgot until seeing it now that they are with something called GreenSet. The anecdotal evidence is the U.S. Open went slow the last two or three years, but who knows.

I can understand variability in balls a bit because you need different coverings to respond to the three different surfaces. But, it seems stupid to have Masters using Penn, then the U.S. Open is with Wilson.

How did Kevin Anderson drop to #122, but my site is showing him as -140 vs Fritz tonight. Weird.

eta: I guess I didn't really miss him while he was gone.

quote:

Anderson has begun the road back from a season-ending knee surgery one week at a time. After playing his last 2019 match at Wimbledon against Guido Pella last July, Anderson returned to play for Team South Africa at the inaugural ATP Cup two weeks ago. Thur far, the results have been promising. They include wins over Benoit Paire and Cristian Garin and a close loss to Novak Djokovic.

I don’t have a problem with them showing Serena. But they’d show almost all of Tommy Paul’s 4th and 5th sets. Then at 5-all in the 5th, they missed Paul’s serve game to go watch Serena’s first game. Came back when it was 5-6 in favor of Paul. Pretty ridiculous decision at least not to go to the dual box.

ESPN pulled a dick move putting it all behind the paywall after showing the outer courts for free for the last few years. But they knew what they were doing because I bought ESPN+ for this.
