The Celtics had planned to run a tribute video for Thomas when the Cavaliers visited the Garden on Wednesday, but Thomas, who sat out the game after returning to action for the first time in seven months on Tuesday night, asked if the team would wait until February so he could be on the court and bring his family to Boston for the moment.

Paul Pierce: Isaiah Thomas tribute shouldn't be on same night of jersey retirement

quote:

"I'm not saying Isaiah shouldn't get a tribute video ... but on Feb. 11, the night I get my jersey retired, I'm not sure I want to look up at the JumboTron and see Isaiah highlights,' Pierce said Thursday during an appearance on ESPN's The Jump.

I agree with him as well. Dude just saw the Lakers give Kobe a proper send off and is looking for something similar. Wonder what Boston will do.

One of the All-Time Celtics. He’s got all of the right in the world to say this. Sure IT doesn’t care either way being that he didn’t even want a Video last night

Why do Celtics fans keep acting like Thomas is some sort of Celtics Legend? Dude only played as a starter for two seasons.

While I agree with Pierce 100%, it’s a bad look for him to come out and make this statement.

However, I place the blame on the Celtics for putting him in this position.

WTF is the 2nd IT doing receiving a tribute video from Boston?! HE ONLY PLAYED 2 SEASONS FOR THEM, we're talking about one of the most iconic franchises in the history of professional sports and they're offering tribute for a player that only played 2 seasons with them?! NBA franchises lowering the bar for glorification for the millennial generation I notice

Only reason he didn’t want it last night was because his family wasn’t going to be there. IT asked the Celtics to move it to Feb 11.

quote:

“That's Pierce's night. But, like, the video tribute ain't the whole night," Thomas said. "I just wanted my family to be here to see it. That's what it came down to. I wanted to be able to play. And I wanted my family to experience the love and appreciation this city and this organization is going to give me on that night. And when my representatives reached out to these guys, [the Celtics] were all for it. They agreed on it.

I mean the dude balled out for two seasons and was a huge part of them making the playoffs, lost his sister in a tragic accident during the playoffs and still came out and balled for his team, and when trade time came he didn’t want to leave the C’s at all.

Seems like a pretty nice gesture and the C’s will love that dude forever. Rightfully so, too.

They don’t, but he was a fan favorite. You don’t have to be a legend to be a fan favorite.

Unless they memorialize him and continue to play videos of his Celtics highlights for future generations, this seems a major stretch especially if Kyrie and the Crew win a couple of East/NBA championships in the foreseeable future. In that case, he could very well be classified a footnote as the player basically traded for Kyrie(among others of course) that helped create that potentially possible result. I won't remember him like that but some Boston basketball laypeople might.

CP3 and the fellas less Harden leading GSW less KD at half, ensures to probably be a pretty lit outcome
