see, i think offense is still their problem. No significant additions to the lineup this year.

On the pitching side, Liriano really paced them last year. Problem is, he's never had back to back good, healthy years. I think it's safe to say he, Charlie Morton, and Jeff Locke all pitched above their head last year. ANd losing AJ Burnett was pretty huge.

Morton and Locke are more like 4.00 ERA pitchers than low to mid 3.00's, imo.

Yeah...I was referring to 2015 and beyond. And everything you said is what I listed as concerns for this season. Particularly the Liriano thing.

When they left AJ on the bench for Game 5 in STL and went with Cole, that is when I knew he was gone. He might as well have packed up that night.

If Polanco pans out.. could have best OF in the NL

Maybe I'm too optimistic.

Even with a projected offensive decline, Marte's projected WAR is 3. The market value of that WAR is around $15 million. The Pirates got him for 1/3 of that.

link from saberbucs

They don't like him as much as I do but that's a really solid deal based off of defense and baserunning.

Nice walkoff win for the Buccos today. Next game set for a 6:05 opening pitch on Wednesday. Charlie Morton will toe the rubber against Edwin Jackson and the winless Cubs.

Locke is AAA depth and xFIP shows Morton should have an ERA in the mid 3's and get a ton of ground balls - he's a solid #3.

Wandy back healthy is huge.

Taillon, if healthy, will replace EV by June.

Locke, Cumpton and Irwin would all be 4/5's on the majority of MLB teams.

It's already one of the best, so that isn't a big stretch

Polanco's a top 10-15 prospect in baseball for a reason. McCutchen's won a Gold Glove, and Marte's a better OF than him. Polanco is considered better than those two. They'll have three plus plus defensive CF's in the same OF.

I know this has nothing to do with the Pirates, but Josh Donaldson just hit like a 405-foot single.

We'll count it as he's a former NL Central legend
