Replaced by the H back, hybrid TE. Ability to move along the line was seen as advantage over lining up an extra backfield player while in pistol or gun.

Baylor has a FB score a rushing and receiving TD against BYU two weeks ago. FB is also our starting LB but that beside the point

Offenses go spread, defenses adapt with linebackers more focused on speed to keep up with the pass catching RB's out of the backfield. Now that teams have entire depth charts loaded with speed linebackers, pound the rock through the lines and watch the rb's fly into the backfield.

I kinda sorta told my buds years ago this would happen - eventually it'll all come back to the Mike Alstott type offense again like we saw in the early 2000s where the FB's and RB's dominate the red zones again.

I always preferred football with hard nosed blocking fullbacks that could also catch the ball and run over DBs

It def feels a lot more satisfying to run right at people knowing they can’t stop it.

Fullbacks however don't go out for passes as much as they use to and you also don't see them pass block as much.
Lincoln Riley in college and Shanahan in the pros use them this way. Jack of all trades.

San Francisco uses a fullback but he is an extreme utility player who isn't just a blocker. He's much more of an H-back.

No one uses a fullback better than Kyle Shanahan.

My all-time favorite fullback story was when Derek Dooley was talking about how talented LSU was before a game and said Les flipped an SEC defensive tackle who was committed to Tennessee, JC Copeland, then played him at fullback. Dooley was mad.

JC would be remembered more fondly with one or two plays missing from his LSU career.

watching lsu tackle this season at times, a good ole les miles or in the past big 10 style running game would just push us around.

The Cleveland Browns use two different FB in their system. Is it any coincidence that the Cleveland Browns are the #1 rushing offense in the NFL? They average 170 yds per game on the ground. Led by two bruising FB's. Maybe we really are on a new trend. Doesnt surprise me. With the limitations on tackling during practice, running the football has become the new spread. What's new is old and what's old is new.
