Petrino was cheating on his wife and got fired. That's totally comparable to canonizing a pedophile enabler. I know we have all these facts about Paterno but let's just let people cool off before we decide if we should get rid of his statue

The statue of Joe Paterno should have been removed, like yesterday.

Petrino didn't get fired for cheating on his wife. He got fired for giving his mistress a university job she was patently unqualified for over qualified applicants. He used state funds, essentially, for his affair, and opened up the school to a whole host of sexual harassment lawsuits (pretty much every person who applied for the job and didn't get it). Then he lied to university administrators about it and tried to cover it up.

Sure, it's a far lesser sin -- but it's still a cover up and it's still exposing a university to liability and misuse of public funds. Perino had to be fired.

Yeah I know, I was just going with the moral comparison for this argument.

Sure I can. I'm trying to have a polite discussion but when people jump in for the sole purpose of flaming, I react. I'll try and ignore it but I wish more people would discuss, not flame.

Jesus h Christ Im glad Long gave Petrino the ax but I don't think the two situations are comparable at all.

There is no comparison with any scandal. Not SMU, not Baylor, not any other team. This is as bad as it gets. The only way it could be worse is if Penn State had been trafficking the children and selling smack on the side.

But LSU? People would have pitchforks and torches, marching into bocage.

For sure. People want to do that now and we have a dominant program with no scandals.

Just the fanbase reaction really. Delusional people who didn't think Petrino was going to be fired.

Come on. What coach in the history of LSU was comparable to Paterno?

The only coach I can think of at any school who comes close would be Bear Bryant. And even he isn't quite equal to Paterno because Al Abama had success before and after the Bear. Paterno IS the Penn State athletic program.

And this is a huge sickening story so of course wackos are going to make the news. They need to just remove the statue and get it over with. It's time for the university to move forward without JoePa, push the agenda of the victim's healing, and show how they are going to prevent this from happening again.

best words on this subject ever.

How could anyone still call it wrongful termination?

Anyone who cares about the university should be glad that they didn't let Paterno coach another game.

Maybe so, but that doesn't mean they love Paterno more than Alabama fans loved Bryant. I don't think a coach has ever been loved more by a fan base than the Bear was loved by Bama fans.

edit: Not trying to say Bama fans would put up with something like this.

Say what you will about Arkansas and Ohio St... they fired their coaches. Sure, they had people defending them, but their respective universities did the right thing for far lesser infractions.

I'd like to add Tennessee to this group as well.

you misunderstand. He was saying people want to march into Bocage to kick Miles out now. I was calling him out for his stupid comment.

Then on what grounds does anything you say stand? That leads to infinite regress which is a common invalid argument.

You're an idiot, out and out just an idiot. These 2 scenarios are nothing a like.
