They are going to be hitting fades on that hole except for the lefties. No draw roll happening on that hole.

Let's say Bubba flies one 325 then gets 25 more of roll. He'll still have 320 left... If he's in the fairway, he'll go driver - driver off the deck at least once just to try it. He's done it before at Kapalua, but that was way more wide open than Olympic.

Exactly. Changing a 510yd par 5 to a par 4 doesnt mean the hole is any more difficult.
Right, it's basically the USGA saying frick you and your -14's, you are going to win this by shooting par

6 inch rough and a narrow fairway if you end up on the left hand side you can put up a kevin Na number real fast. No one is going to hit driver off the deck to bring in double and triple bogey into this hole.

We're talking about Bubba here. I like him, but he doesn't exactly think things through all the time.

He is a masters champion not Roy McAvoy from tin cup.

This course has hosted 4 US Opens. All 4 have been won by golfers who were not well known at the time. The 4 runner ups in each case were hall of famers, big hitters, or aggressive players.
1955 - Jack Fleck beats Ben Hogan in a playoff
1966 - Billy Caspar beats Arnie in a playoff
1987 - Scott Simpson beats Tom Watson by 1
1998 - Lee Janzen beats Payne Stewart by 1
If the weather gets damp, as it sometimes can in San Francisco, the course will play even longer than normal. Expect the USGA to shorten some holes if this happens, but chances are good that the winning score will be even par.

Just as long as the course rewards good shots I will be happy. That is what good golf is for me, rewarding good shots and punishing bad ones.

I haven't really even watched a tourney since the Players, between finals, graduation, graduation parties, regionals and super regionals I've been insanely busy.
Ill be watching this week though CANT WAIT
The last few weeks have not been condusive to watching golf. Lot's of other activities have been going on, but this week is US Open week!!!

I would absolutely love to play that course this week. It would be amazing to see my one day score lose to their 4 day scores.

Haha, what?
Jack Fleck, yes. The other 3, no. One of them is the greatest putter who ever lived.
The runner-ups were big names, but the guys who beat them had damn good resumes and were well known

Agreed. The other were good players, but not in the top 5 or top 10 of betting favorites to win at the time. Janzen had won the Open a few years before. If I'm not mistaken, the bigger named players at the time either had the lead and lost it, or were in contention.
The USGA does seem to adjust and setup the course with more difficulty after a year with low scores. That and prior history of Opens on this course tend to predict that birdies will be rare.

Billy was a great putter, but I don't know that I would call him the greatest who ever lived.
I saw him at the end of his career and I don't remember him being an extraordinary putter.
When I think of great putters I think of Jack, Tiger, Crenshaw, Faxon.

No, but if he's feeling it when he gets to 16, I'll be shocked if he doesn't go driver driver just once on Thursday or Friday.

The more I read this thread and read up on the course, the more excited I get.

I shot 77 on wgt(I'm a fairly regular player on the site, especially with the amount of rain we've had in the last few weeks). The course is ridiculously long.
