but he's older now. I'm pretty sure he wouldn't just magically return to form like he was with the Raiders...

Really? That was all of two years ago. His next stop will determine if the Eagles tour was an aberration or his new level of play. IMO opinion he has a few more years left of playing closer to his Oakland level.

maybe so, we'll see.

Are the 49ers still trying to land him?

Not sure, that's a hard front office to read. Trent Baalke (GM) typically only signs FAs if he thinks there is considerable value per $$$. Defiantly a GM focused on building through the draft. So, I never get to excited about free agency.

He didn't play to that level the past two years at all.

Question will be if that's on him or Eagles bad d coaching. Just seems odd that him getting beat often would all come down to coaching.

Same here. A string of horrific FA contract decisions decimated out franchise for more than a decade. I'll take 1 or 2 but am glad we build through the draft for longevity instead of the win now at all costs menatlity.

Wide receiver Mario Manningham agreed to a $1.8 million pay cut in his base salary for the 2013 season, an NFL source confirmed Thursday. The new contract, first noticed by Jason Hurley of NinersNation.com, reduces Manningham's base pay from $3.6 million to $1.8 million.

The 49ers had $9.29 million in salary cap room before Glenn Dorsey's contract, which has not yet been tabulated by the league, the source said.

So the 49ers now have right under $11.3 million minus Dorsey in cap.

I'm glad the Texans didn't give him that (not like we could have afforded that anyway) but they definitely overpaid I think.

Yes, FA should be for filling holes not building teams.

Patriots signed KR/PR Leon Washington, formerly of the Seahawks, to a one-year contract.
Washington is going on age 31 and seems to no longer be viewed as a viable change-of-pace back on offense, but he can still break long returns. In 2012, Washington ranked second in the league in kickoff return average (29.0) among returners with at least 20 attempts. He also took a 98-yarder to the house. Washington was less effective on punts, averaging 8.7 yards per return.

Michael Bennett to Seattle

Defensive end Michael Bennett and the Seattle Seahawks have agreed to terms on a one-year, $5 million deal, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

The 27-year-old Bennett had a career-high nine sacks last season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, starting all 16 games for the first time in his career.

The Seattle Seahawks will be a force in the pass rushing department.

Bruce Irvin, Michael Bennett, and Cliff Avril will keep offensive linemen on their toes.

Clemons apparently is hoping to be back by the start of the season. I'll believe that when I see it. Carroll said that he's still in our plans, but I still won't be surprised if he got cut.

I really like the Washington signing

We havent had a legitimate threat in the kick return game since god know when.

Wonder how interested the pats are in resigning Edleman. Would be a nice insurance policy to Amendola (although he himself has had some flukey injuries) but i dont think he wants to go back to a situation like it was before with Welker and Leon Washington signing diminishes his value because hed have to fight for Punt return duties

Free agent Greg Jennings is dining with Vikings brass on Thursday evening, including coach Leslie Frazier and GM Rick Spielman.
Even Jared Allen is in attendance as the Vikings "clearly (try) to make a strong impression," according to reporter Tom Pelissero. In other words, it's more than a tire kicking as the Vikes try to sell the market's top remaining wideout on Minnesota. A deal isn't expected Thursday night. Pelissero spoke with an NFL executive who "could see" Jennings bringing home a two- or three-year deal worth between $7-$8 million annually.

Damn his price got driven down quick.

Green Bay was said to offer him a 10 mil a year contract and he said no because he thought hed get even more on the open market. If true thats an oops on his part
