There is no doubt we gave up a lot, but who knows what the plans are for Bush. That's what I am waiting to see next.

No matter what, we added depth to the backfield next year. Ingram is a 1st round talent. We got 2 first round talents this year, as opposed to one this year and one next year. I don't think it's that big of a deal. Plus we still have two 3rd round picks left this year.

I just want more depth at running back. We can't have what happened last year happen again. I know Ingram has had injuries too, but the more guys you have, the less likely you get as depleted in the backfield as last year.

The Saints must really, really like Ingram. If that's the case, the only thing we can do is let it all play out and see how things go in the backfield the next couple of years.

Yea, I posted this on the Saints Board too.

Product of his system... right place, right time. He played well.

What is not to like about his game though? Basically a more elusive Peyton Hillis.

I'm not a Saintard btw, just so you know. I'm half cowboys, half saints fan. :ducks:

10 of the top 15 leading rushers last year were drafted in the 1st or 2nd round. Jamaal Charles was also an early 3rd round pick.

I'm sorry man but that is just stupid. You can't have the "this is a weak RB class" argument and "could have waited till later" argument too. If so, then name me the 5th round RB with Ingrams talent.

I can tell you one but I have to wait until Green Bay drafts him before I know who he is.

I just don't think he's a standout in any way.

He's a very, very solid collegiate back. But I think you can find a ton of guys like him all throughout the draft... and I think a lot of the guys in this draft will equal his NFL production.

I know most people love him though... and I can see why... I'm just personally not a fan of his game (but he's a great, great dude).

I am thinking that Reggie Bush leaves after this next season. He's overpriced and really has not produced that well considered what he is getting paid. The other thing we need to wait for is what trades will ultimately occur in free agency. I think we did pretty damned good.

Guys like to say "wait wait to pick a RB" because you see Peyton Hillis and Arian Foster break out fairly often. But there are also ALOT more duds in the later rounds. The success rate of first and second round RB's, as your stat shows, is typically better. Sometimes you can't wait, especially in a class like this, because you don't know what your getting that late.

even if that is the case, Mark Ingram is NOT a 1st round or 2nd round RB.

He is a 1st round AND a 2nd round RB

bush is not a real piece in our running game, so i doubt he has any effect on anything to do with ingram

11. Hillis - 7th
12. McFadden - 1st
13. Benson - 1st
14. McCoy - 2nd
15. Forte - 2nd

In 2009 9 of of the top 10 leading rushers were drafted in the 1st or 2nd round. 14 of the top 16 rushers were drafted in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd rounds.

Who cares about the title of "franchise back".
If Mark Ingrzm can produce like a Ray Rice then everyone's going to be happy. Obviously that's what the Saints think he can do. But apparently y'all know better and think we should have waited and picked up Steven Ridley because he's the guy that's going to create a balanced offense for the Saints.

are you counting 1st and 2nd round RBs who ended up on other teams as 1st and 2nd round RBs for this argument?

like in 2009, you're counting thomas jones as a "1st round RB" ?

Ingram may very well be the best overall back on the Saints roster. Considering what that could do for our offense, it's well worth it.

Of course, we could argue about this til' Jesus comes back but it won't change the pick.

Peterson, Johnson, MJD, Jackson, Mendenhall and Rice. Charles if you count 3rd round backs. McFadden and McCoy if they have repeat years.

Regardless, if you want a top RB then you should draft them in the 1st or 2nd round. That is what history has shown and that is still the case today.
