What has caused this? What’s changed since the 2017ish range?

the noon games are pretty shitty teams right now outside the 49ers, Bengals and falcons.

Ravens missing Lamar but still playing well. Zay Flowers is electric

Offenses in college stopped developing QBs and started developing towards a system.

The air raid system develops some bad habits in QBs in regards to the NFL and it’s widely used in college to different variations.

QBs are also much more athletic than 10-15 years ago and get away with a lot in college with that athleticism. Can’t do that in the NFL

EDIT: transfer portal has also killed QB development. You’ve got guys learning potentially 4 different playbooks in 4 years now. There’s no consistency to that when every coach will teach things differently

Poor development at the level below. Players are coming into the NFL unready and coaching isn't as good as it once was.

2017ish offenses were led by a comically high number of Hall of Fame and Hall of Great QBs playing at the same time

Their replacements are not able to operate offenses at that level

NFL Defensive Coordinators are VERY good.

The biggest difference is they're selling out to take out big/chunk plays, which are incredibly valuable to defenses. NFL teams have to dink and dunk and matriculate the ball down the field, now, and they haven't fully adjusted yet.

This isn't as big of a deal as you're making it out to be. The concepts are what matter more than the playbook. The NFL adopted most of these concepts that spread (no pun intended) with the Leach progeny, mixed in with WCO stuff that's been around 45+ years at this point.

If the QB has the correct concepts taught, the playbooks can be learned in a couple of months.

Now, if you're in college and you learn under a Briles system, you don't learn concepts well. There are some systems that don't build good QBs in college, but that's always been the case.

NFL QB talent is fine. The NFL is pretty loaded with QB talent. Defenses are just incredible and OLs are weak. Injuries have also done a number on QBs the past few years.

Sports betting legalization: How we got here

May 14, 2018
The Supreme Court strikes down PASPA, the federal ban on sports betting.

"Congress can regulate sports gambling directly, but if it elects not to do so, each State is free to act on its own," the court writes in its opinion. "Our job is to interpret the law Congress has enacted and decide whether it is consistent with the Constitution. PASPA is not."

Wait you think that qb play has dropped from when you had Brady, Manning, Brees, Rivers, Rothlesberger, and Manning all playing at HOF level because almost all are certainly HOF’ers?

I think the portal has a lot to do with QB development. Coaches are plenty good to develop a talented player, but they’re under pressure to win pretty quickly so they just adjust their scheme to fit the player. Hard to develop a kid in one year and that’s what many of these portal QBs are now.
