How incompetent can the NFL rules committee be?

The nfl is the only sport that has an overtime rule like that. It’s so stupid

They really should just do an extra 15min for playoffs

Meh...frick the chiefs defense for not stopping them or at least holding NE to a FG.

What if that doesn’t break the tie? Another 15?

Don't field the worst defense in the NFL?

He had time to win it in regulation. They kicked a FG.

KC defense has been bottom towards almost every defensive statistic the entire year.

More reason why the rule sucks. Game shouldn’t have so much hanging on the flip of a fricking coin.

Sounds like he should have done more in regulation.

Probably so, it is definitely an advantage to the winner of the coin flip

And oddly, Brees wasn't an honorable mention in that drive

Overtime should still be sudden death. Win in regulation or don’t bitch about losing in OT.

I'm getting to the point where I think this is the correct solution for all games tied at the end of regulation. The NFLPA and the television networks will never go for it though.

Football is different from the other major sports in that one team can have possession of the ball for almost all the OT without the other team ever getting the chance to score. In basketball and hockey both teams are generally going to have several possessions, in baseball both teams are guaranteed to get to bat. In football the team that wins the coin toss has an overwhelming advantage.

At the very least let's do something related to the sport to decide who gets the ball first in overtime. I would rather have the league set up a tire and have quarterbacks take turns trying to throw the ball through the tire from say thirty or forty yards and whoever throws the ball through first gets possession. At least that would require a skill set related to the game.

I totally agree. Same as 10 years ago when Favre never got to play in OT against the Saints.
