The owner gave an interview and basically said after studying what happened in the ECHL expansion they decided to just put 1 team here and try to draw from surrounding areas not just BR.

Even without putting the focus on the name/logo, I’ve been very unimpressed with the team’s marketing effort in Baton Rouge so far.
Hockey can succeed here, but it takes a lot more initiative, effort, and timeliness than we have seen from this bunch. Everything is C level or worse. Web site, social media, name, logo, communication with fans, community outreach. We’ve got nothing but bare minimum thus far.
And if you want to survive, you have to hustle. NHL is on ESPN+ seven nights per week. I can watch any team I want, any time I want, for next to nothing. LSU football, basketball, and baseball runs concurrently with hockey season. That’s your competition, Zydeco. I want you to succeed, but you’re showing signs of sucking already.

I guess I am in the minority but I think it’s a good idea to market this as a “Louisiana” team and not just a Baton Rouge team. So while Zydeco doesn’t mean much to Baton Rouge, I get it..
Also.. the logo looks like something out of the 1990’s and I actually kind of love that. Plus a nice touch with the red stick.
