re: The NBA being a "softer" league doesn't mean the players are less tough

I think most reasonable people know that were today's athletes required to play tougher most of them would be able to.

They are soft because they are allowed to be, almost required to be.

I agree. I’d still like to see how LeBron would react to being Rambised.

It's a different style of basketball. Players flop and complain to the refs because they are rewarded for doing so. It may be annoying and frustrating to watch, but tbh flopping is a winning strategy when you know the refs cant wait to call a foul no matter what.

In the same sense, players played rough and dirty because they were allowed to do so. Refs and the NBA in general were very relaxed back then. Players today don't do hard fouls and play dirty not because they are not as tough as a guy like Bill Lambair. They dont play like that because they know that if they did a quarter of what the Pistons did back then, they would end up getting suspended for half the season and fined their entire paycheck.

What rules changed to make players sit games out and play less minutes?

When you've been pampered since you were in grade school by AUU coaches/handlers/schools/hangers on, it doesn't build mental toughness. Hell, I bet some of the AAU teams locker rooms and facilities are better than the Celtics' in the 80s at the old Garden.

It's similar to Texas high school football players. They've been pampered in their high school programs and a lot of them get pushed around in college.

LeBron has never weighed 260 in his life while on the court. He’s actually between 240-245lbs. Anyone who’s seen guys that go by their actual size knows what 260 looks like and he’s nowhere near that. It’s like calling Durant a 7 footer when he’s only 6-9 or Dwight Howard, also 6-9 and a half. Plus the Bad Boy pistons handled way bigger and badder than that. Using weight to make the case has no logic in it to begin with so the premise doesn’t even hold water.
