re: The hype for Caleb Williams is nuts - anybody else think he will bust?

It was hardly “ready made offense” that’s the worst kind of post hoc narrative writing
Yeah I'm really surprised anyone would try to argue that it was 'ready made', which makes what Stroud is doing all the more impressive.

They're ahead of Carolina, Chicago, Indy, Arizona, Atlanta and Las Vegas. This is the point that I am trying to make, not that this was a team that is a QB away from the Super Bowl.

I bet Carolina wishes they had picked Stroud based on early performances from both
I bet Young wishes they would have picked Stroud, too.

I think evaluating QBs is the hardest thing in sports. Franchises are not great
It really is and given the importance of the position and that missing costs these guys their jobs it’s mind blowing how badly they can miss, I assume it’s because they are so desperate they overdraft most of them but then don’t give them the coaching and development needed. PJ nailed it a lot depends on where a player winds up. Put Mahomes in Chicago and he’s more
like Stafford in Detroit imo, puts up some big stats, but throws a lot of picks, makes the playoffs a few times but never advances new coach every 3-4 years. But with great offensive coach like Reid, all time great multiple SBs.

Between Stroud, Anthony Richardson, and Jayden Daniels vs Nuss, I can only laugh when they are quick to say bust.
Calling every player a bust is the easy take since most QBs do wind up busting. But it’s ultimately more the broken clock being right twice a day than the “fan” analyzing correctly.
As a side note I’ve been wondering what was the worse narrative on the rant last Spring Daniels is not good or Jay Johnson can’t win

And I’m saying that’s mostly 20/20 hindsight based on what’s happened Stoud is having an historic season. Carolina did bring in Miles Sanders and Adam Theilan plus drafted Mingo in the 2nd so they tried to add some weapons. Indy had Taylor and Micheal Pittman has been really good.

You're either the best player or not...he didn't suddenly get worse, otherwise he wouldn't still be slobbered over as the #1 pick.
But the Heisman is a hype award, flavor of the month, no do-overs...and Caleb Williams team didn't win or play well in the nationally televised games.
He's still the best talent in CFB, he already has the trophy...so they'll give it to another.
That's the way this stupid award works.

They forgot to address the OL, Texans signed Shaq Mason, George Fant and Michael Deiter.

Texans signed some as well that paid immediate dividends like Andrew Beck, Devin Singletary and Dalton Schultz in addition to aforementioned signings for the offense.

Others can get better though.

a) The Heisman Trophy is for the most Outstanding player in college football for a given year, not the top draft prospect b) the best talent might be Harrison, Williams is projected as the top pick because he’s a QB and the position is more valuable

He did not play nearly as well this year, the numbers not just the team results bear that out.

I think Caleb is a great college QB and has a chance to be a great NFL one as well. But I wonder if he’d be the consensus #1 if Patrick Mahomes and the phrase “off-platform” didn’t exist.

Yes, because there's no one else. At the start of the year, there was a lot of talk that this could potentially be an incredible qb class. But a lot of those guys, including Maye, just haven't been great this year.

Texans front office did a great job but you’re still using 20/20 hindsight. As recently as mid/late Sept many we’re speculating Arizona would have the top 2 picks or at least 2 of the top 4 with their own and Houston’s

for a position that is so dependent on mental ability it’s crazy to say that about literally anyone coming out of college until they play.

Yes they did do a great job of adding quality pieces to an organization that was legitimately "torn down to the stubs" with the moves of BoB. Laremy Tunsil was his best contribution to the team but two first round picks was too much.

So the first few weeks of the season? I was hoping for 7 wins at the beginning of the season.

That is about where everyone had them pegged at the beginning of the season but I knew they had a little more in them with all of the moves that the organization was making. Really sucks that we are having to put Houston-Carson out there at SS instead of Jimmie Ward. I think Derek Barnett will make his presence known, maybe not this week but in the coming weeks.

Houston had an offense ready and waiting for him, not likely that the team that drafts will possess.
Chicago has better skill guys than Houston by a mile. Houston’s guys look good now but that’s probably bc of stroud. I thought stroud would be a huge bust and was very wrong.
To me Caleb has a lot of red flags, and a team picking him number 1 wanting him to be the face of the franchise and a leader in the locker room as he’s asking for ownership equity with painted finger nails before he’s taken a snap in the league and fresh off a losing season in college isn’t a good start.
If he was a top 10 nfl qb right now he should have been able to will that team to a few more wins
