Is it a coincidence that all of this "woke" stuff started after college student bodies became mostly comprised of Zoomers?
So we should respect the "traditions" of an old racist/ segregated student body , but disrespect the opinions of a more modern diverse one?

So, I can only assume since you a consistent honorable man you are fighting to cancel that as well. If not, I can only assume, like you say, you are for "segregation now, segregation tomorrow....."

Newsflash, back in the day, people hated anyone and everyone different than themselves
Every countries traditions were founded by people who hated everyone else. That is for every race and creed

Simple yes or no do you agree this particular instance is ridiculous?
Logically speaking, anyone against the song for the reasoning being used should also be against clothes, food, shelter, water etc etc
Allow the students to sort this out.

Once again, I ask as a privileged white man like myself to have this honest conversation with you. I want to do my part
Why is this song bigoted and racist? I want to further teach white men like myself why this is wrong

Football has changed IMMENSELY since 1905 Pride. I'm not canceling fight songs ,but changing or updating them should be considered a positive.
We could always return to early 1900's/ pre forward pass when student athletes were routinely killed on the field. People were mocked then for wanting to dismantle the old rules & change the great game of football.
Sissies like Teddy Roosevelt killed old Football traditions ,I guess.

The song is about working on the railroad...which refers to a chain gang...which prefers to prison...which is racist.

change that to another nail in the coffin for the UT band. and you might get the state of Texas to support it.

Like it or not those “bigoted” students of the past keep pumping money into the school.

"modern and diverse". Zoomers have more neo nazis than any generation since the 40s. Even the "good" zoomers corrupt the fight against racism by changing the definition of what counts as bigotry weekly, using callouts for online clout and social gain.
This song was never an issue with the black alumni. It was never an issue at all until a few months ago. How can you expect people to believe that this is a real issue? C'mon man.
Zoomers as a group are extremely vulnerable to mob mentality. I think its because almost all of them are super active online and anyone of their friends could decide to call them out for saying something out of turn. Theres no thinking about things, people just want to make sure they don't fall out favor with their peers. Not only that, but a lot of them have serious issues paying attention and processing information. Everyone seems to have an anxiety disorder too. I have a feeling the reason why is going to be similar to the lead paint poisoning phenomenon. Tons of kids have had their eyes glued to a screen since they could walk. Its just speculation at this point, but when scientists study how hours and hours of online activity affects the brain development of teens and pre teens, you will have the answer to why your generation's lives turned out to be so terrible.

" About a decade ago , a group of Texas Basketball players refused to sing it .....and just two years ago ,the Texas Student government debated the merits of the song- but now that the monuments to the US racist history are toppling around the country ,this call has been REinvigorated "- Joe Levin Texas Monthly / 6/17/2020

News flash, the university doesn't belong to the students. I've heard this argument many times, it's their school".
Wrong.
The school belongs to the students, the alumni, and to future students. Current students are simply a temporary caretaker. They're doing a shitty job at it too.
