eh...color me skeptical. I still think it's a pretty long shot for him to stick. Looking forward to seeing him try at Tennessee this year.
As for the previous question...
Dude has power...what does everyone need? power. Sure he'll tumble quickly if he can't hit at AA, but lets not act like he was some absurd reach. Dude was still top 20 (and was projected to the mets at 10) on just about everyone's draft board. And probably immediately got a bump when Mcleod is saying he was always their guy, because he knows a thing or two.

Well, I remember when Kris Bryant wasn't going to ever play 3B too. (I realize the jury is still largely out on that, but right now he's the Cubs 3B prospect...not LF prospect).

I don't think Castillo goes anywhere. You need that 2nd catcher to catch ~35 games

He beat up on high A just after being drafted. Why don't all the other developed college hitters do that immediately?
Posted on 2/17/15 at 2:05 pm to The Sad Banana
True, but I view him as Lester's personal catcher
this overbrook fella has been hating on the cubs for awhile. I think he's a white sox fan

This...I understand the lip service of "we're prepared to carry 3 catchers" but that's all it is...time to move him, and probably at least 1 pitcher.

While there was and still is plenty debate about if Bryant can stay at 3b, the possibility of him being able to do that was more accepted.
Maybe schwarber sticks, he seems to have all the intangibles that would allow him to defy the odds...I'm just really skeptical.

Universally considered a reach? He was the best college hitter in the draft

Yeah, would be shocked if Schwarber sticks at catcher.
I have no feelings on Wellington either way. It all depends on how they use Ross (1/5 games for Lester only or more).

I like Beef and would've preferred to have him and montero. If we'd have signed Ross prior to lester in an attempt to sweeten the pot for him to sign it'd have made more sense to me. And with position versatility of AA specifically along with the rest of the bench, it's conceivable we could carry three catchers I suppose.

So I don't follow baseball closely...is this a result of Theo Epstein putting in good work?

Yea Ricketts committed to a rebuild after trying to patch the raft for a year. Theo and Jed did a good job of flipping both one year and multi year guys for prospects. Solid talent evaluation in drafts and international spending (conception seeming to be the outlier and i think he was a theo guy). It's been fun to watch (so long as you accept 85+ losses is going to happen). Will be interesting to see when, or even if, if you're a real pessimist, it works now that these kids are coming to the bigs.

This is literally the only time I see the President given props over the GM.
For instance, the Braves fire Frank Wren and put the blame on him for the most recent frick ups. Doesn't Schuerholz have just as much, if not more say? Nobody gave credit to Stan Kasten. All you heard was how awesome Schuerholz is.
