Uhh, yes you can. You can go anywhere on the court you want. The ONLY illegal defensive rule now is 3 seconds in the lane.
That poster simply does not understand the new rules. That part you quoted was the most obvious one of all to show he didn't know how it works in today's game.

They don't realize it because they are relatively new posters who haven't lived through your three previous versions of this same thread.
I'm ok with him copy/pasting this thread into a new thread once per month during the season. It's solid and kinda necessary based on a couple of the replies.

I was thinking the same thing when I read some quotes from Oscar Robertson about coaches not knowing how coach defense these days.

I think the problem is he doesn't understand defensive rules in today's NBA.

Coaches and players were still trying to figure out how to play within the new rules. It took a while for everything to balance
so they just happened to figure it out as Phil was retiring and the last of the great bigs(Duncan Dirk KG Gasol) past their prime.

The post game was dying well before 2012.

The more spread offenses were a result of the "pack the paint" defense popularized by Tom Thibodeau.

Also post offense is one of the many areas where college basketball and obviously AAU ball doesn't help big men.

Post offense has to be learned, especially the footwork. Combined with the "pack the paint" defenses, why would anyone but the most talented bigs spend all their time on the blocks. That said, there are a lot of young bigs in the game today that have the potential to be deadly post players. It won't mean these guys will get 30-35 post touches each game like those dominant bigs of yesterday, but it does mean that those guys can still dominate games for stretches just with post play.
