I feel confident McCarthy will be there at #8. I'm sure the pick would be panned and called a huge reach. But that's who I think they should target and would be the best fit. That slight move from 9 to 8 would rule out a number of teams trying to move up when the run of QBs happen (I believe 6 QBs go top 20 in the draft).

He just turned 21 and won the National Title. He played 3 years in college and went 27-1 as a starter. Stands 6'3 with a good arm and a plus athlete. Still raw fundamentally and needs to fill out. He would be a top 3 pick in 2025. Going to crush personal workouts and measurables will vault him quickly. Played for a pro coach, in a pro system, that lauded him.
The pick range is crazy on him, from top 10 to end of 1st (with a few as a 2nd day guy). But there are many guys that vault pre-draft. So it's a bit of a projection. I don't see why he would slide..

Other option: Keep Fields through the off season and then trade him to the first contender that injures their QB during the season.

Well, yeah. Which is why I based the premise of the trade on the OP's post about Washington's desire to get Willams. In this draft, you can pretty much be guaranteed of a top 5 picking team willing to pay for Williams.
I will say, I would not trade down if it meant losing the guarantee of Mayes or Daniels. They need to get the 4 year rookie QB contract reset to make any deal work, and Mayes Daniels and Williams are the belles of the ball.
