I agree with this, but the Donaldson signing makes no sense if they're punting to 2020
A few other random thoughts about this:
- With the sanctions from the Coppy stuff, AA may not want to trade much of the farm because the lower levels are going to be really thin soon
- I think AA may have been scarred by the RA Dickey trade he made in Toronto. For those unfamiliar, he traded Noah Syndergaard for him. I think he fears repeating that mistake and may have trepidation about trading for someone like Corey Kluber as a result

I don’t think it’s a punt but Donaldson’s deal is low risk, and st worst you trade him at the deadline if you have to

All 4 teams could finish somewhere between 85 and 95 wins.
Is the rest of the NL going to be that bad? Marlins of course could lose 120.

They played to level of talent that was in the clubhouse. Unfortunately it wasn't good enough to win the NL.
I'm all for the majority of the team to be built organically like we did in the 90's, but it's okay to sacrifice a couple prospects for a proven MLB player such as JTR. Marquis Grissom, Greg Maddux, and Fred McGriff come to mind as a couple pieces that were added in exchange for prospects. They helped propel the Braves to win the World Series. The rest of the team was largely built from the farm.

Maddux was a FA signing but I get your point and agree with it 100%.

Yep, I agree as well. It's been a little frustrating so far because everyone else in our division has made strides to improve. The FO is banking on all of these guys to make the next step, when in reality due to their age they could take a step back. I do think the Braves overachieved last season, but you could easily point out the weaknesses of the team (bench, Front line starter, BP, etc.).
It's just unfortunate because eventually we need to deal some of those young arms. Prospects are just that... prospects.

Exactly. Just look at Kolby Allard. He has virtually no trade value right now and would be nothing more than filler. He probably could have headlined a trade package at this time last year.

Wonder what it would take to sign Derek Lowe.

Heyman says ask for Realmuto was 2 of Riley, Pache, Wright, Anderson, Wilson.

Yeah I've also read the same elsewhere. other places saying Riley was mandatory. If that's true, then I don't blame AA. It's a real possibility the Marlins just don't like working with the Braves.

It's a long article calling out Terry McGuirk for being a cheap piece of shite. And he's right.

Yep, Liberty Media has nothing to do with any of this. Its all McGuirk. He was awful before Liberty acquired the team. I guess he is netting the profits from Sun Trust.
