My question now is who are we going to put in LF?

Our system has been completely revamped in one offseason.

Mark Bowman @mlbbowman
The #Braves have exchanged names w/ the Astros but the deal is not complete.Still a chance Gattis could go elsewhere.

Not really. Obviously Foltynewicz has a big arm, but given his control issues, there's a possibility he flames out(no pun intended). Ruiz is the prize in the deal.

I agree completely and I'm not complaining at all. I wanted Gattis gone. Now I want to trade Kimbrel in July and rob some team blind. I was just asking the question because it needs to be asked. Do we have someone we feel we can stick there from our own system, or do we go with a FA?

We have to trade Kimbrell at this point, right?

maybe a deadline deal though

Ken Rosenthal @Ken_Rosenthal
#Braves continue to insist they have not finalized deal with #Astros. Likely just pending Gattis’ physical.

I don't see the rush in making a decision on that. He's under contract til 2018. At this point in time, I think we'd have to be blown away to move him.

By my count, here are the lefty arms we have signed since October:
Greg Smith
Francisco Rondon
Donnie Veal
Kelvin Rodriguez
Johnny Diaz
Max Fried
Manny Banuelos
Leyson Septimo
Josh Outman
Wandy Rodriguez

Braves fan will melt this board!

now the real question is if the Braves' outfield defense improves with literally nobody in left field instead of Gattis

Well given that we aren't contending for anything other than bottom of the barrel for the forseeable future, the time to move him is absolutely now or at the very latest the trade deadline this year. He will probably make 35-40 appearances this year and will surely blow some of those opportunities.

Meanwhile, contending teams who want to strengthen their bullpen will be calling us like crazy trying to get him off our hands. There's no lineup protection behind Freeman now. Our offense could easily contend for worst offense in MLB history.

I guarantee you I would rather have Costanzo is left than Gattis. we aren't gonna be as bad as you think.

I don't think Constanza will be seeing any time in LF. Long time until opening day so who knows.

It's going to be pretty bad, but I don't think it will be near as bad as some lineups the Astros have put out there the last several years.

We'll just disagree. Unless he falls flat on his face, his trade value will be the same. He'll still be in his prime the next few years and unless someone can forecast some kind future injury, he's not going to fetch any less next season than he would this year.

Regarding our offense, no argument here. It certainly doesn't look pretty.
