The ATL Thread: Off-day & Freddie's heart is still in Atlanta thread....

I know we usually don't make off day threads but I thought this was too important not to bring up:
This is from DOB. Bowman also verified this in fewer words: Bowman
If any of this is even remotely close to true(and coming from both DOB & Bowman we shouldn't doubt that it isn't)The MLBPA needs to ban Casey Close from baseball or at least make him persona non grata, what a shithead. He basically sabotaged(strong word I know) Freddie's career. Now saying that, Freddie isn't blameless here like DOB said. He needed to be more upfront w/what he wanted and not put so much trust into his agent.
Saying that I agree w/Bowman that The Braves are probably in a better situation w/Olson both from a money standpoint and a WS window standpoint due to Olson being 4 years younger.

One final note on Freeman's FA. DOB said he talked to people out in LA including Freeman. He said it was all off record so he wouldn't say exactly what happened or who told him. However, he did give the general idea. He basically said Casey Close, the agent, went rogue and wasn't really communicating with Freddie like he should have been. Freddie was said to be unaware of the ultimatum made. Now some of that falls on Freddie cause DOB said he wasn't exactly forcing the issue to get info. Basically, Freddie was totally out of the loop, his agent got greedy and was solely focused on milking every cent out of someone instead of focusing on what his client wanted. DOB said it was 100% clear being around Freddie that he really would rather be in Atlanta. He said Freeman spent more time with the Braves than Dodgers over those 3 days and his heart is still in Atlanta but bad representation and inexperience with FA negotiations landed him in LA. Just a total break down of communication from multiple angles.

Jesse Chavez back with the Braves. Newcombe to the Cubs.
I didn’t realize Newk is 29. He’s running out of time for all his talent to turn into a good major league pitcher.

Yeah this will probably be Newk's last shot. I didn't know that he was already 29.

I gotta be honest here, I just don't buy any of it.
Big agents don't go rogue and players aren't clueless about what's happening in the deal of their lifetime with 100M+ on the line.
MAYBE I can buy he just always sort of thought it'd be the Braves and the lack of FA experience part meant he always thought the Braves would still be around when the carousel stopped and he wanted to get off. But dude took it to the brink for months - if he wanted to be in Atlanta there were probably a dozen opportunities to end it and make that happen in this saga.

I think he is really torn TBH.
But it'll be a lot more believable on his end if he fires Close.
Let this be a lesson for future FA's: Communication is key and the agent works for you, not the other way around.

Complete and absolute bullshite of a cover story. There was negligible difference in money. If you want something you get it, the agent is a cop out for not wanting to stay in ATL. It's obvious Freddie's side and Alex weren't talking for a long time, if Freddie had a problem with that he could have changed that. Freddie is playing this pitty party game to cover up that he wanted to go to LA so he doesn't look like a bad guy, that's the bottom line.
Which is fine with me, he was never Chipper Jones and I know that will eat at his arse for the rest of his life. Personally, I don't like the fact that Freddie gets more adoration than Chipper at this point of his career for playing far less years in ATL than Chipper did.

The Braves offer was worth more AAV than the Dodgers. I think around 300K IIRC.

Like I said a couple of minutes ago, if he wants to make this even more believable then he'll fire and sue his agent for malpractice.

Chipper is my favorite player ever. Love that guy.

Like others have said, I don’t buy that story. If Freddie really wanted to say he would’ve.

I don't have time for this BS. Freddie is almost 33 years old. He can't play this aww shucks character he's trying to be. I want to buy a ticket for his first game in Atlanta just so I can boo him.

It's becoming increasingly likely in my mind that Alex made the moves he did because he knew Freddie was leaving and it was a last ditch effort, that miraculously worked out and Freddie capitalized on it.

There were rumors all OS, even during the lockout, that we were in on Olson so Freddie shouldn't of been blindsided by it.
Posted on 4/21/22 at 8:58 pm to SteelerBravesDawg
There a lot of rumors going around about the Braves not even trying to re-sign Dansby since they use the same agency.
Posted on 4/21/22 at 9:10 pm to AlbertMeansWell
It's cool Dansby is local and played in the SEC but he is nothing great, teams won't be bidding for him, Jeff Blauser had more offense in the 90's

After what happened w/Freddie, I can see it.

Yes, but also Freddie is probably in a better situation in terms of winning at least one more ring and he gets to be back home closer to his dad.
It's a totally fricked up and shitty way for it to happen, if that is how it happened, but it probably worked out for the best for all parties involved. That is if you take emotions out of it, which you really can't because these are human beings after all.

So booing opposing players is low class now?
Posted on 4/21/22 at 10:13 pm to SteelerBravesDawg
You need to get over it. Freddie didn’t want to be here as badly as you think he did. It happens.

Cheer him and give him the ovation that he deserves his first AB. Then after that he's the enemy and boo away.
