My next question is, if we're supposedly ok with being a consistent tax team, which AA has said, what is the point of saving money on a such a premium position?

The Braves are using injuries as an excuse to cover up for a whole hell of a lot of underperformance that was occurring separate from the injuries, and the blind optimist homers are eating it up.

Injuries are not the only thing that went wrong with the offense last year.

Exactly!

Hopefully the new coaches can get some of this fixed.

We just don't want to be miserable about a very good team.

Like I've maintained, a healthy mix between '22 and '23's offenses is a reasonable ask.

All of us know where this team is. It’s a top 8 team in baseball. That gives us a chance. Yes, if we lose Riley, Ozzie, and say Acuna we will be in trouble just like any other team if they lose some top players.

And if half the team plays below their average we’ll go no where. But we are way better than 80% of the league who are heading into spring training knowing they have no chance. I am not expecting a title because no one should be for any team, The playoffs are a total crapshoot and that makes the sport fun.

And if it's not like that, what will your excuse be?

When you look at the stats most of our team were right around the league average for BABIP, so it wasn't like most of them were having super unlucky seasons. Arcia and Murphy's were low, but they are historically players with a low BABIP anyway so they really weren't THAT low. Meanwhile Ozuna obviously had a very high one this season. All that meaning we should probably expect Ozuna to come down to earth some, Murphy and Arcia to be a little better, but the rest of the guys just might be who they were last season generally.

And yeah BABIP isn't a perfect stat or predictor, but for something you can glance at once and get a general idea of expectations going forward its hard to beat.

Yeah I know it’s the first preseason game. And I know it’s not the lineup we’ll see come regular season. But still having PTSD after a lead off double followed by a strike out, pop out, strike out.

Went back the last couple of pages in this thread because I was bored and hadn't read them... found this gem.

Imagine calling yourself a baseball fan and thinking there is ever a scenario where you have shitty LF and a shitty SS, but say it's more important to improve the least important position on the field over arguably the most important position on the field

ETA: Haha I didn't even realize who posted it... now it makes sense. The Braves could've made an announcement that they hired a new marketing intern and he would've said "marketing was a much more pressing need than SS"

Ian Anderson with 3 BB and 1 K and was pulled before he could get through the second.

I don't know if to chalk that up to Spring Training or if it's just Ian being Ian.

And runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and can’t score.

Hitting is literally meaningless in Spring Training. Good or bad, you don't really ever see momentum from established guys carry over from spring to the regular season.

All you should care about is how the pitchers look.

He'll get a chance because he doesn't have any options, but I think he's DFA'd by May 1

Well on that note, many pitchers use Spring Training to work on things, new pitches, etc.
I’d rather neither pitchers nor hitters look like garbage.

Then I'd advise that you not watch a single inning of spring training. Everyone is kinda garbage.

And recommendations on good spring training stadiums to visit? Thinking about going to a few different ones this year.
