So it would be better if he started in lead and choked down to a T8? That logic makes no sense

Of course it does, don't be obtuse. If you're 10 shots back going into Sunday, you are out of the tournament and any pressure is completely off.

The reason I didn't realize he backdoored a T8 at the PGA is because he wasn't a factor

What would we lose if they stopped? What does it show? Sometimes top 10 is very much in contention, and sometimes 10th place is 8 shots off the leader.

Maybe a better stat would be shots off the leader.

He was top-10 in his last major. What a ridiculous comment

I’m offering a Niemann ban bet. If he is in the last 4 groups on Sunday (AKA in contention), I’ll permanently delete my account. If not, you do the same.

Oakmont’s original design when it opened was as a links type course. It stayed that way for 50 years until the 1953 US Open when the course was criticized by some sportswriters covering the tournament, basically describing it as a goat pasture.

The members were embarrassed, so they began planting trees to “beautify” the course.

(Notice the two rows of recently planted saplings trees above the church pew bunkers)
[/img]

About 40 years later the trees had gone largely unchecked and overgrown. They were causing problems all over the course with the soil quality, irrigation, sunlight, as well as altering the layout of some holes.

So, they decided to start thinning and removing most of them in the 90’s. I think the process began after Oakmont hosted the 1994 US Open.

That process evolved into restoring the course to its original design of an inland links course largely devoid of trees. That’s why Oakmont cut down thousands of trees.

Lets just post how he has performed because it can be arguing semantics defining players

He has played 24 majors, he has 2 top 20s and 1 top 10

Sam burns, who often gets talked about as well for his major performances (or lack thereof) has played 20 majors

He has 3 top 20s and 1 top 10
