He’ll still claim it because Miller was 63 on a par 71 and Fowler a 62 on a par 70.

If the course is iconic and/ or historically relevant aka pebble beach, the scores can be low and it’s no big deal. If these scores continue then yea… this needs to be dumped as a uUS open spot. I look forward to watching them struggle at this event.

6 to 10 under is about the max it should be when conditions are good. Part of why I hope Erin Hills is no longer in the rotation

This course cannot defend itself. No wind and even the little greens are allowing golfers to spin it like it's a Farm Burea Invitational.

USGA has to be in a dark room somewhere trying to toughen this thing up.

Round one goes to the players.

They have limited options. It's June in Southern California. It will be gloomy in the morning and the greens will be soft. They should have planned for that coming in. If it was September or October it would be a different story.

No course has a defense against these guys now without wind and rock hard greens.

It’ll be interesting seeing how Brooks goes about this week.

Doesn’t look like he can employ his typical strategy of letting 95% of the field shoot themselves out of the tourney while he plods along playing smart golf.

They can tuck/hide the flags, roll the greens and pray for wind.

Even the late group just starting now is playing under cloud cover. Would be wild if this group can go as low as the morning.

That would be my only gripe about today. Pin locations seem way too friendly for a US Open.

Rory chose the skinny jean look for today.

Nearly as impressive as the drive was the moonshot 7 iron from 200+ yards. He would have liked to be closer for the eagle putt but that 7 iron was in the clouds.

Rory’s second drive is 368 :

So 382 and 368 off the tee to start the day

Should also be noted Rory and Jena were hugging and mingling right before he walked to the 1st tee.

People here want him to be an outcast but he’s clearly boys with Brooks.

But that doesn't fit the MSB narrative.

The LIV guys have definitely added a couple belt sizes While Phil looks as good as ever.

Rory’s putter looks dialed early

Brooks always walks that fine line of fit vs chubby guy wearing a small shirt trying to look muscular
