Bad time to be bringing it up when said defense gives up 40 points though. His defenses in his early years were good.

Brees: 116 wins (in 5 less years) with an 22nd ranked average his entire time in New Orleans in the toughest division in the NFL statistically over that timeframe.
Brady: 200 wins with an average 7th ranked defense his entire career for 18 years under the GOAT coach in NE in the easiest division in the NFL over that time frame.
TLDR:
9 wins a season with the 22nd ranked defense in tough division under Zoolander
11 wins a season with the 7th rank defense in easy division under the guy that taught Saban
