I'm not a cubs fan, fricktard. The prospects they have (mainly hitting) are pretty incredible. They won't all pan out, but I think it's a safe estimate to say 2-4 become mainstays and at least 1 becomes a super star.

I mean, you guys can get a little carried away and overhype the shite out of some prospects (Brett Jackson comes to mind), but between Soler, Schwarber, Bryant, and Baez at least 1 will be a superstar on the Giancarlo Stanton/Mike Trout level.

what? You've seen a few Bryant games to know this? Springer had quite a few oppo HRS last year. Alot more power? Please explain.

quote:

Springer is a 25-30 he guy with a Chris carter like average and k rate.

He was a 40/40 guy in the minors. Bryant is just a 40 guy. He hit .302, .303, and .345 in the minors.

That's grand considering, according to MLB.com, Carter is a Top 100 player in the league. He got off to a terribly slow start last year.....then....

quote:

@AceballStats Final 72 games of 2014

#Angels Mike Trout
.269/.353/.523, 16 HR, 31 BB, & 92 K

#Astros Chris Carter .268/.348/.574, 24 HR, 33 BB, & 92 K

Obviously, I'm making no comparison....just thought that, even though I still dislike him bevause his swing looks lazy and he looks like he moves in slow motion, but Chris Carter's 2nd half was on part with the AL MVP.

So with numbers thay already rival Carter as a rookie, I look for his numbers to continually increase.

Try again with your vague comparisons and attempt to downplay Springer by comparing him to a guy who played right next to the AL MVP in the second half of the season.

I don't disagree with that, and a good friend of mine always reminds me of pie and jackson when I hype the kids. The difference is while cubs fans prayed and prayed for jackson and pie to be saviors, no one outside of the fanbase really thought they were all that elite. I don't think brett jackson ever cracked the top 30 and if pie did, he barely did. So yes, you're correct, cubs fans overhype prospects (what the hell else is there to talk about, other than rizzo's breakout) but comparing jackson and pie to this crop has its pitfalls too.

I think it's possible, however very unlikely, that Bryant is a generational talent. But I've never seen that as a true expectation.

But yea...Jon Lester...cy young. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT!

I'm among the biggest cubs fans here, but let's just slow this down just a bit. Trout is a special kind of... something. I'm not putting that expectation on any of them.

Because that's what I said, Mr Deshields. How's he doing this spring, anyway?

Way to take it out of context when I clearly made a point saying in wasn't comparing the two.

also...you didn't mention russell, who is probably the best (or at least most sure thing) of the bunch.

I think Schwarber has the chance to be the best hitter of the bunch. Bryant I can see being a bit like Adam Dunn. Schwarber will be a little more like Miggy IMO in that he can hit for power and average. Best overall player will probably be Addison Russell.

That would be a grim outlook for soler/bryant. Unless you just mean pure hitter not guy who does the most damage and is the more valuable player.

I do expect he comes up most polished of all though, but only because they give him every chance to stick at catcher thus keeping him down longest (baring needing an OF in a future playoff push).

Don't get me wrong. I think Bryant and Soler have a higher ceiling, but they have a much lower floor than Schwarber IMO.

Schwarber can be a guy who can hit .280-.300 with 30 bombs multiple years.

Bryant and Soler wouldn't surprise me if they were .250 hitters and hit 30-40 bombs a year. not bad, but from a pure hitting standpoint Schwarber would be better.

But then again, I'm in the camp that doesn't value OBP as highly as all the sabretards these days. I view a single as > than a walk.

I'm clearly much more bullish on soler than you.

I doubt schwarber is able to stick behind the plate and becomes an above average OF (because of his bat), but i think he needs to spend some time facing age appropriate competition lest you follow us down the path of over-hyping prospects.

I agree that I'd like to see how he fares against AA and AAA pitching.

One thing I like to see with college bats is consistency. did they have a good freshman, sophomore, and junior year or were they up and down? Schwarber was a beast every year. He's produced everywhere.

AS far as age appropriateness goes, A ball average age is about 22 years old. A+ ball is about 23 years old. Schwarber was 21 last year and just turned 22. He'll be in AA this year where the age is about 24-25 years old. I'd say he is ahead of schedule. Plus he put those numbers up right after playing college ball, which can be a difficult transition for some.

Anyone know how to upload voice recording to youtube? Duquette and Ferrel talked about my Springer/Bryant comparison today on MLB Radio.

Id send it to someone if they can get the voice recording uploaded to YouTube

All this Cubs jizz makes me sick. I think they aren't any better at the ML level than they were at the beginning of last year. Swap Lester for Samardja and it's close to the same with a prospect or two. I know they got Fowler and Montero but this looks like a 73-78 win team. Prospects are just that until they do it in the show.

No one cares about George Springer in this thread. He's a good player. Go be butthurt in the stro thread if you need validation on which player is better
