I just read keith law, listen to bp podcast and follow the cubs very closely. So Yea. I pay no attention and will just defer yo your generalized statement lacking evidence. Maybe we do read different stuff and perhaps on bleacher report that's happening.
Haters gonna hate.
It's going to be so much fun watching this team

Pretty much what you said. Look, I'm a Reds fan who has been burned by many of these "can't miss" prospects. I just hear these MLB Network and ESPN gurus talking about how great the Cubs are going to be the next few years, and they might. I just think we need to wait and see if these guys pan out. You can't tell me if these same prospects were with say, the Twins, and not the Cubs and Theo they'd be getting all this love. Because it's the Cubs it gets overblown. Same would go for the Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, etc. As Cubs fans you all might not see that. I'm not trying to get in a pissing match with any of you. I just think we need to let the prospects, not just for the Cubs but all teams, produce before claiming future championships. Not that you guys are but just in general.

I mean I understand it. I try to piss in cardinals fans cherrios so I fully expect tit for tat and rival fans to try to dampen our excitement for the kids. But call it what it is and don't manipulate the informatio. And don't compare top prospects to brett jackson. Sure make fun of us for pinning our hopes to him but it is different.

Right. You and I read a lot of the same stuff. I've not seen this "sure thing" talk. While yes there is a ton of excitement there is always a caveat that it's not a sure thing. Yea some guys say "he's as close to a sure thing as it gets" they're still careful to couch it.
But the philosophy the organization adopted was one I definitely believed in and looked up to before Theo and Jed took over the franchise.

But the point is that they get it. And now the Cubs get it. And while the Cubs aren't there yet, the arrow is trending that way. And it's the sustainability that is so exciting. This is just the first wave of prospects and already there are like 5 or 6 in the top 100, 4 in the top 20 in most publications.
For the record, I don't really care what guys on TV have to say. I do care what publications like Baseball Prospectus, etc have to say.

you mean like Byron Buxton and Miguel Sano. I know almost as much about them as I do my team's prospects because they are talked about so much. Hell Buxton is the #1 prospect in a lot of publications.

That doesn't only factor in prospects, it's also manager, revenue streams that are about to open up, and established young players with good contracts. It's a netword that goes 24/7 365. It's going to come up. If they think the cubs are going to become good, should they not say it?

It's great when a plan comes together. Rebuilds aren't fun, but i blame no cub fan that's watched it go from a bloated FA only payroll to a very sustainable one with a crop of developed kids coming to give support for getting super excited about the present, and especially the very near future. Doesn't mean they're going to win anything, but sure as hell can be excited. i really think this just the over use of 'wait until next year' 'next year is here' shite that gets everyone grumpy.

what does he know. Russell isn't actually good, he's just overhyped.

What you did there, I sees it.
Posted on 3/12/15 at 2:14 pm to piggidyphish
Oh, they're good minor leaguers and MLB prospects. What does what Gammons thinks have to do with future success? Like I said earlier, let them prove it in the majors before hanging banners.

You're totally right man. What the hell are we thinking talking about sports on a more sports board anyways???

Took you a while to think that up didn't it? Is that not what we are doing there genius? The whole thread began by a guy saying Cubs fans should be blowing their load. I'm here saying don't be too premature.
Posted on 3/12/15 at 2:20 pm to msudawg1200
how would you handle it if the reds had a bunch of good prospects? you wouldnt be excited?
Posted on 3/12/15 at 2:22 pm to msudawg1200
Well, it only took me a couple seconds actually, considering I replied 2 minutes later. I had to refresh once :(
I agree the title is dumb, but seriously, why poopoo on stuff people want to talk about? If you don't like it, or are upset that people are complimenting a really good farm system, then why bother?

Probably, but I've seen that song and dance way too many times(see early 1980's after the BRM was dismantled and the early 2000's). Look, I like the way the Cubs have done things under Theo and Jed. I think they've done it right. I guess I'm overly pessimistic on prospects especially a load of them at one time.
Posted on 3/12/15 at 2:26 pm to The Sad Banana
You have and most of the Cubs fans here have. It's the Cubs fans in general that I know that have the pennant flags ordered.

For the argument man. It's what baseball fans do.

I guess that's where we differ. As a Cubs fan, I've never been in this situation. But I can tell you that I am in no way pessimistic about their group.
And why shouldn't I be? It's a very unique situation.
